What age for these books?

I have my copies of Heidi, a chalet school book and The secret garden. DD has been reading since 2 1/2 and can read anything but there is still the issue of comprehension and appropriateness in a book I read aged 10.

HOw old is she?

I remember Heidi (Reading the book and watching a series on TV - I would have been about 7?)

She is nearly 7 but has a reading age of older.

Heidi would be ok, wouldn't it?

Am trying to remember the story but am struggling...

Lived on a mountain with Grandfather

Friend called Peter?

Sent to 'city' to live with relatives??? (gets hazy from here on in for me)

Heidi & Secret Garden definitely ok for a 6 y/o I would say if they are happy reading them. Start of Secret Garden possibly upsetting (Mary's parents die) but 6 y/os remarkably heartless about that sort of thing IMO.

Chalet School - probably ok but I might have a skim - tbh if it is too old she'll just not 'get' it all, rather than anything else.

Wouldn't have thought any of them were 'inappropriate' as such. She might like A Little Princess by FHB too?

I read Heidi and the Secret Garden aloud to dd when she was about 5 or 6.

DD and I shared The Secret Garden when she was about 6y and she enjoyed it, and followed it no problem.

Thanks all

DD can be sensitive so she might be upset about the mother dying. She has had tears over me dying before.

I could prepare by saying mum dies but Mary is okay?

Its in the very first chapter, so you could read it & see whether you think it is ok.
