German Book Recommendations for bilingual DD7

I was wondering whether anyone could recommend German books for my 7 year old DD to read by herself?

She goes to school in the UK (Year 2) and happily reads Roald Dahl, Dick King Smith and Enid Blyton books in English.

We're raising her bilingually and her German is pretty good. So far, I've not encouraged her to read German books by herself (to get the English foundation in place first), but she now happily reads German words and wants to read proper German books.

I could, of course, get German translations of Astrid Lindren (Pippi Langstrumpf) and the likes, but wanted to ask if anyone has any other suggestions?

Many Thanks!

Cornelia Funke - various books... when your DD is up to the reading level. I really like her books in english, so they should be good in the original german.

I found a bunch of german kids first readers in frankfurt airport last time I was there, about Conni (IIRC) , a bit like Toppsy and Tim stories.
Pippi Longstocking seems to be poular in germany- I think there may be a cartoon version on TV.
you may already have looked at amazon, but in case you havn't.

Thanks UniS!

Cornelia Funke is a great idea - just looked on amazon.de - wow, she's written lots of (highly recommended) books. Will try to search for her the easier reading books.

Yes, I remember the film version of Pippi Langstrumpf as a child - really loved it!

We have quite a few of the small (?1) Conni books and the kids like them, so I'll have a look for more 'serious' versions - just saw a few Lesemaus versions. Good idea too .

Any other ideas/suggestions?

dd is 8 anna and I recall last year she read a lot of

Thomas Brezina: Ein Fall für dich und das Tiger-Team
detective kids series. Comes with Dektektiv-Ausrüstung in a little pocket at the back, like a decoder or some such thing

Fabian Lenk: Die Zeitdetektive

Detective kids in the past via time machine. There is a whole series, dd is a history buff thanks to mum so she likes those, ie. Geheimnis um Tutanchamun. Ein Krimi aus dem alten Ägypten

Thanks ZZZen, we haven't read any detective stories, but dd may well enjoy them - she's not really into 'girly' stories, so may give them a try. Will look your suggestions up on amazon. thanks

Rauber Hotzenplotz by Otfried Preußler! Fantastic stuff and very funny.

Yes, Otfried Preussler is great - we've read Der Kleine Wassermann and Das Kleine Gespenst!

My only gripe with him is that the language is rather old fashioned and I'm not sure dd could understand it well by herself.
