The Pirates Treasure by Emily Bearn is the first novel with few pictures we have read to Ds 4 years old. He has loved it, so have we. It's has pretty simple ideas that he understands. What would you recommend next He likes Animals, Firemen, space and astronauts. I'm not keen on Horrid Henry, he can read that to himself when he is older.

bump again. DS1 is 4 and bored of Julia Donaldson books. Roald Dahl was frankly terrifying for him so I need to find the next stage. Preferably with pics but not ALL based on pics if you know what I mean...

Which Roald Dahl did you try? The Twits went down well with DS at 4 and he's easily terrified too

Dick King-Smith writes a lot of animal stories (funny ones) which your DS might like. Also, some of the Michael Morpurgo books are aimed at younger readers.
