Anyone a fan of molesworth? Double chiz if not

I'd love to hear from anyone else who loves the molesworth books (a mad spoof of 1940s boarding school etiquette).

They were narrated by nigel molesworth and described his school (St Custards), his dere little brother molesworth 2, his grate friend peason and other weeds and wets eg fotherington tomas (hello birds, hello sky) and grabber (winner of the mrs joyful prize for rafia work).

Will our dere little chaps (and girls) ever be ready for these books? I seem to remember reading them in my teens, is that the right age?

If no one else loves these books, I will utterly tough them up and diskard them.

My only critcism is that they totally ruined the Jennings books for me. I thought these were hilarious as a pre-teen but once i discovered molesworth, it was all over.

I love Molesworth. My children have yet to discover them, I might try one on the 11-year-old and see if she gets it.

I daren't introduce ds to Molesworth. His spelling is Molesworthian already!

But I love them.

Can you still get them? Like was it 'Wizz for atoms'?

Priceless.

I used to love Molesworth - my (male) cousins had the books and I used to read them when we went to visit.

Used to like Jennings too, my own children all loved "Just William" - we used to listen to the tapes in the car on long journeys. Very well observed.

I think I have a fotherington tomas of my very own. DD3 wrote a poem called Leafes and trees tonight. It was very fotheringtonesque.
I have tried to persuade DD1 to read Molesworth, but she will not.

To faraday - not only can you get them, there is an omnibus edition, all of them together - as a Penguin Modern Classic.

A very battered one in our house.

An omnibus edition! Fantastic - mine all fell apart years ago.

Worse, I'm fairly sure I was a Fotherington-Tomas when I was at school. The shame. I love Molesworth, but only discovered him as a grown up.

Just been saying hullo to the birds and the sky...

I started reading them when I was 8 or 9.

I like Molesworth too but I think it might be hard for a 21st century child to appreciate.

Now Jennings on the other hand...

I got 2 or 3 second hand Jennings books to introduce them to my dd and she loved them. In fact there are bits where they can still make me laugh out loud
