Children's books

What's your child's most favourite book ?

I was buying some books yesterday for the children and realised that there were lots of books that had been read on CBeebies - I assume because they are massively popular. I only recently heard "Room on the Broom", and my DS1 who is 4 absolutely loves it. What else am I missing out on?

We love/loved all the Scheffler Donaldson ones ? as well as Room on the Broom there?s Gruffalo, Grufflao?s Child, Snail and the Whale and Charlie Cook?s Favourite Book.

We also like Kipper - Kipper?s birthday, Kipper?s Beach Ball ? in fact any Mick Inkpen ? Threadbear, Bleu Balloon, Lullabyhullabaloo etc etc.

Each Peach Pear Plum

Peepo still makes me cry (see threads passim)

Pants is very funny tho perhaps a bit young for a 4yo

You Choose is excellent tho it can take a while to read

We?re Going on a Bear Hunt

Where?s My Teddy

Harry and his bucketful of dinosaurs - DH and I find the phrasing a little odd but DS loves them, but his absolute top favourite is 'Room on the Broom'.

However, he is only 19 months so guess PLENTY of time to change. He's a bit obsessed with his books and loves to 'read' them, guess he takes after his mum .

DS (3) loves Dinosaurs Love Underpants, the Mog stories, Green Eggs and Ham and the Monsters Inc book (yawn emoticon).

DD (15 mos) will not be read to. She crawls off and starts throwing toy dinosaurs about instead. I've tried Apple Tree Farm which DS adored when he was her age but nothing doing.

I really hope my DCs love books as much as I did as a child. I had my hooter in a book for hours.

DS, 5:

Green Eggs and Ham

A kitten called Moonlight

Snow Bears

Tiddler

But now he's a bit older and has discovered chapter books his favourites are Jeremy Strong's my brother's famous bottom serier.

Clary you know there are two more books after Where's My Teddy, if you haven't already discovered them you have to! They are great and folow on with Eddy meeting the bear.

at 2-3-ish it was the Blue Kangaroo books.

Tiddler is adored by my 3 year old.
Any Julia Donaldson actually (Gruffalo, Room on the Broom etc).
They also love the Large Family books (think that is on Cbeebies now)
Kipper
Percy the Park Keeper is lovely

We all love the Shirley Hughes stuff too. Dogger and Alfie's Feet etc etc. I love the illustrations.

Zagazoo by Quentin Blake is hilarious too and Miss Armitage.

My 5 year old is just getting into longer books and I started reading The Moomins to her and the Roald Dahl stuff. They like the Silly Song and Verse.

DS has also always liked The Idle Bear. Anyone ele read it?

The Old Bear story which DD and DS always find hilarious is the one where the bears are playing hide-and-seek and forget to assign anyone as a "seeker". Just brilliant.

Oh yes anything by Shirley Hughes.

I particularly like Alfie Gets in First and Dogger of course (DS2 has a cuddly he will not sleep without).

Also Tiger Who Came to Tea excellent if bizarre.

OMDB Yes I love It's the Bear! almost more than Where's My Teddy - "It's the bear, cried Eddy, he thinks I'm desert!"
