Struggling to find what's next. He's read some of the Percy Jackson stuff but runs out of steam not far into them. He doesn't like the bear Grylls books, the itch books, the Alex rider books. Has read all wimpy kid. Doesn't like David walliams. Tried him on Phillip Pullman but also no. Has read maze runner but not massively keen. I'm struggling! Please hit me with.suggestions

Darren Shan!
My DD is 12 and recently read Hunger Games and loved them. (she also liked Percy Jackson but that was a few years ago, doesn't like Williams either). Now she is on the zombie series by Darren Shan. Also she didn't like Northern Lights when I encouraged her to try last year, but then I read it to her and she loved it and she took over. Might be worth a try if he is reluctant to get into books you think he'd like.

Gregor the Overlander, also by Suzanne Collins, is a really good read (five not so long books). She is currently writing a prequel to the Hunger Games.

Agree with mortal engines and the knife of never letting go (chaos walking). Maze runner is also excellent

Sorry, just saw he didn’t like maze runner ☺️

Michael Grant's 'Gone' series might well be worth a look, my boys are both very keen on it (14 & 12 currently)

Or Michelle Paver's Chronicles of Ancient Darkness. DS2 is obsessed with that...

My 12 yo loves the Percy Jackson series, what about Magnus Chase? DS reading them atm, think they are Norse mythology. Was going to suggest Maze Runner, but see you've me mentioned it. Not sure what DS will.go to next as he's read most of Rick Riordans now. But he also like Manga, so Hmm

Coming on to repeat the Garth Nix recommendation! My favourite is the Abhorsen series (first book is called 'Sabriel').
