So my son has grown up with Julia Donaldson type books or aliens love underpants (that kind of thing) over the last few years but he suddenly seems a little bored of them.
Any recommendations for bed time stories that your kids love? Thanks! X

My 5 year old loves the dinosaurs that pooped series. Dinosaur pooped the planet/bed/space etc he thinks they are hilarious.

They also rhyme which I think is great to read to them to get them learning about teaming words.

I would start on chapter books at 6 if he's ready for them. Start with Roald Dahl/David Williams maybe. My parents read me The Hobbit at that age, and I will probably do the same with mine in the coming years, along with Harry Potter.

Dinosaur cove, Atticus claw, Mr Majeika, Oliver Moon, Jack Stalwart, Astrosaurs, Cows in Action

Steer clear of the dreaded beast quest if you value your sanity (but this age group adores them)

Dinosaur Cove
Flat Stanley
Flying Fergus
Bear Grylls adventures
Enid Bottom short story compendiums
Faraway Tree
Short Roald Dahl such as The Twits, Fantastic Mr Fox

All went down well as an introduction to chapter books and longer stories. A chapter a night works nicely.

My 6 year old is obsessed with Roald Dahl at the moment. We got the set from the book people at Christmas and we always read a few chapters a night.

We've read the twits 3 times but his dad reads the worm spaghetti chapter. It's too disgusting Sad

He likes to read Dr Seuss books by himself, got a thing for scrambled eggs super at the minute.

My 5 (nearly 6) year old loves chapter books. Particular favourites have been most of Roald Dahl, Pippi Longstocking, Paddington, Faraway Tree and The Christmasaurus. Just started on Harry Potter.

Wow loads of fantastic suggestions there!

He loves transformers/spy’s/mystery’s.

Great suggestion about Enid Blyton- I adored those stories as a child :)

Thanks so much everyone 😍 xx

I’m a mum of boys, and I felt pretty similar about finding new books. After being made redundant last year, and after dragging myself out of my pit of doom, I decided to write a series of books for my children. They pushed me into it, and supported me the whole way, hence ‘Ollie Discovers the Planets’ and ‘Ollie Discovers the Dinosaurs’ being born! My books are fact, fiction and fun! Check out my website, //www.olliediscovers.co.uk, as I’m always happy to sign my books x
