Accessible poems for 7 yr DS?

He’s decided he likes poems, particularly the rhyming kind, which is lovely and something I really want to encourage as he was a late reader. Alas, I’m ignorant about poetry and don’t know where to start - needs to simple (think
Julia Donaldson / dr Seuss) as I want him to be able to enjoy reading by himself.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein is a collection of funny poems.

American and about 30-40 years old, but my 6 and 7yo DC love them.

Have you heard of Please Mrs Butler and Heard it in the playground by Alan Ahlberg...my 7yo DD thinks these are really funny (as did I when I was her age!)
A few may be a bit dated but we still enjoy reading them.

The school where I volunteer had Neil Zetter in to give a talk/workshop last year, and his books have proved very popular.

Any/all of the above, plus Stars In Jars by Chrissie Gittin. Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats is great fun (though he might need a dictionary), and the edition with illustrations by Axel Scheffler means it feels quite modern even though he can’t draw cats. It’s best to read aloud, as it’s all about the rhyme with many of the poems. An anthology like The Ring of Words (collected by Roger McGough) would be a good way to try a range to see what he likes.

AA Milne (author of Winnie the Pooh) wrote two anthologies of poems - When We Were Very Young, and Now We Are Six. Possibly a little young but good for him to read himself.

I was reading Lear's Nonsense poems and limericks at that age.
