Hi,
A good friend of mines child is about to turn 1. They don't have godparents but I'm kind of an unofficial one. In lieu of a christening present I bought their ds1 a beautiful Beatrix potter gift set of all the books when he turned one.

I need another set for ds2 but am stuck for ideas. I want it to be something that lasts their lifetime really. Budget isn't up to £100

It's hard to say without knowing which books DS1 has already.

If you go to Waterstones, they usually have a section labelled "gift books", or similar, which might help.

Book of poems might be the right sort of thing.

There are some really nice gift editions of Winnie the Pooh. Like this one: <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/Winnie-Pooh-Complete-Collection-Hardback-x/dp/1405284579/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1488808690&sr=8-6&keywords=winnie%20the%20pooh&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">//www.amazon.co.uk/Winnie-Pooh-Complete-Collection-Hardback-x/dp/1405284579/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1488808690&sr=8-6&keywords=winnie%20the%20pooh&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Or how about Thomas the tank engine: <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/Railway-Thomas-Centenary-Collection-Classic/dp/1405257407/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1488808917&sr=1-2&keywords=thomas%20the%20tank%20engine&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">//www.amazon.co.uk/Railway-Thomas-Centenary-Collection-Classic/dp/1405257407/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1488808917&sr=1-2&keywords=thomas%20the%20tank%20engine&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Or Paddington Bear: <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/d/Books/Classic-Adventures-Paddington-Michael-Bond/0007562071/ref=sr_1_11?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1488808976&sr=1-11&keywords=paddington%20bear&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">//www.amazon.co.uk/d/Books/Classic-Adventures-Paddington-Michael-Bond/0007562071/ref=sr_1_11?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1488808976&sr=1-11&keywords=paddington%20bear&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

What a lovely dilemma! A friend bought first editions of books with a main character with her children's names which I thought was a lovely idea - would that work? Otherwise lovely editions of nursery rhymes or as a pp said poetry. Or as there is already an older sibling and so they might have lots of young children's books you could go for books for older children. Or was there something published near the time of the child's birth that is special to you and would make a gift to treasure?

Try the book people are really good value.

They have the complete set of beatrix potter for £29.99 plus 15% off sale at the moment.

They also have a Peppa Pig set and a Julia Donaldson for just over £10.

Hope this helps. :)
