A-Z of book titles

So DS 10 has to read 26 different books before Easter - one beginning with each letter of the Alphabet.
We can manage a few of the common letters but are struggling with the lesser common letters - KXYZ etc.
I'm also trying to use it to try a few new authors/stories so if anyone has any recommendations I would be grateful.
TIA

Is Z for Zachariah too old for a 10 year old?

Plenty of books beginning Kidnapped... as well as the obvious classic.
V-Vicarage family (Noel Streatfield's autobiography)
Ds is 9yo and he's just discovered series of books by David Schutte who writes about a gang of children called the Naitabals, which he's loving.
One by the same person, but not in that series is called Sam and the UFO, which might do for a U adventure. Warning though, they speak in code and ds is now trying to address me in that code which is a little trying when I need to know something quickly!

Other books he loves-he has quite unusual taste fed from my book collection of older books. You may need to go on ebay as a lot are out of print:
Lone Pine Series (Malcolm Saville)
White Riders/Cargo of horses/Storm Ahead/Hidden in a dream (among others) (Monica Edwards)
Cue for Treason (Geoffrey Trease)
The Black Riders (Violet Needham)
Adventure series by Williard Price
Peter Duck (and others) by Arthur Ransome
The Blue Door Theatre series (Pamela Brown)
Biggles

Witchend How I loved the Lone Pine series; I noted your name too! My friend and I wrote to Malcolm Saville and he replied, we were so pleased. When the first kiss happened (was it David and Peter/Petronella?) I nearly swooned; such innocent times!

David and Peter in Not Scarlet But Gold, I think is their first kiss, although you could see it coming from Neglected Mountain.

You then get Jenny and Tom, which is rather sweet, I think Jenny kisses him on the cheek quite early on, perhaps in Lone Pine Five when he buys the spoon, but they only really get sorted out in Man With Three Fingers.

Lastly there's Penny and Jon. I was never convinced by that. Penny seems too much of a flirt to stick to her rather boring cousin when she meets other boys after being at her all girls' school.

Don't really count Harriet and Kevin as a couple, although I think the twins do. Seems more a friendship to me.

You can tell I've read them a few times. It's interesting because people have said that modern children find old books too boring with descriptions and just want snappy dialogue. But ds, whose concentration is on the low for a 9yo boy, absolutely loves them and will reread them again and again.

Lucky you writing to him. I think he died in 1982, which was a few years before I read them. I think he aimed to reply to all letters. have you still got it?

Gosh, you know your stuff Witchend! If I still have his letter it would be in the piles of stuff "to sort" from my parents' house, currently in storage. Possibly my best friend kept it; I'll
ask her. I think we were about 13 so about 1969 when he wrote back. In the same storage are all my childhood books so will be interesting to see if DGC will enjoy!
