Can you recommend a David Walliams book?

DD needs to read one for her book track at school but doesn't like the look of them! Which one do your DC prefer? She is 7 (y3). I think we'll get an audiobook to listen to together on holiday next week.

I don't blame her for not liking the look of them. My DD doesn't like David walliams because 'someone always dies.'
We've only read gangsta granny, demon dentist and mr stink but, yeah, she's right someone always dies.
Personally I prefer Roald Dahl.
Not much help. Of the three above I'd pick mr stink- but only because I was pushed.

The Boy In The Dress is great, and has a good message.

Mr. Stink is ok.

After that, the message of most of the books appears to be 'fat working class women are horrible.'

The Elephant one could be worse. But it is still daft. Agree that his tone is often sneering and unpleasant.

Why are schools promoting individual authors anyway? Seems odd.

I got 'The Midnight Gang' on audible and we listened to it today. Awful! Terribly written, poor characterisation, flimsy plot. DD didn't mind it - but she was trapped in a five hour car journey, so it was better than nothing.

Schools often suggest authors for certain age groups. This is a bingo card system where they try to fill each box on the card (different author in each box).

I am not a fan of Mr Walliams's public persona, but DS2 (10) has read all his books and likes them all. I have done some reading with him and i find they have good points. There is often for example an appreciation of the vulnerabilities and the qualities of elderly relatives, and the bonds they can have with grandchildren.

I don't think anyone dies in The Boy in the Dress, although there is an absent mother. Awful Auntie is good too.

MY DS has read all of them. Try the worlds worst children..IT is broken down into shorted stories.

I just asked my DS (9) he said the midnight gang is his afavourite.
