When I was little (maybe 89-92?) I had a book where some people find a nice patch of grass.

They start off adding fences and then houses and stuff, and basically it turns into this massive roaring city.

At the end they find a new piece of grass and decide to leave it "just as it is".

It was beautifully illustrated and I loved it. No idea what it was called or who it was by.

Oh mumsnet hive mind - does anyone know?! Thank you!!

I'm just bumping this for you as it sounds like a lovely book. Wish I could help.

Thank you! I'm really hoping that a) I can find it and b) it's as good as I remember! Recently had a disappointing experience re-watching supergirl and I don't want a repeat!

Sounds lovely. This list is good and has some on the same theme - The Little House and Farewell to Shady Glade - not sure if they're your book or not.

Isn't there a specific board for book geniuses? Mumsnet identified the Stark Sisters for me on it. It was an extraordinary feat of deduction from my description, as well.

The abe books forum has been very useful to me in the past.

Just looked and there's a book sleuth one here

If there is a board I haven't found it! Those books look lovely anastasia but aren't the one. Yet!

Looking at Topics, I guess it was probably the Children's Books board.

Someone found my song a few days ago so I am more than happy to find your book. Pass it on!

It's not windows sadly - this one had words in!

Bumping for the morning crowd. Umbongo and my mother confirm this is a real book and I didn't dream it!
