Book recommendations for a senstive 8 year old girl

I'm looking for recommendations for my 8 year old book worm.

Although she's a good reader she's emotionally very young for her ages so can't handle anything even remotely scary or sad. Harry Potter, Roald Dahl and most Jacqueline Wilson are out. She doesn't like David Walliams. She doesn't like fantasy and never got on with Rainbow Fairies or anything like that.

She prefers stories about girls, and likes school stories and anything funny.

She's read all books from the following series: the Judy Moody and Stink books, Daisy and the Trouble with books, Malory Towers, Naughtiest Girl in School, Penny Dreadful, Maisie Mae and some Famous Five.

So I'm looking for similar styles of books, if anyone has an 8-9 year old girl what do they like to read?

the Jill pony books were much loved by me as a fairly sensitive child, they are by Ruby Ferguson. Order them from the library as they are £8 each on amazon

I have a DD like this too, although she likes the scary stuff and then gets scared. I also really really dislike enid blyton having read a couple to her when younger, too many things in them that annoy me! So haven't been giving her any!

Of the roald dahl books think Matilda is a good one in terms of little scariness!
Secret Garden, Heidi, railway children (usborne do abridged versions).
Stinkbomb and ketchup face. Worst Witch. Borrowers (but a scary ending). Pippi Longstocking.

Sad doesn't even begin to describe Black Beauty! It's heartbreaking! As an adult who knows what happens, I am still a wreck when I read it.
