Good non fiction books for ds, 4yo

DS is suddenly into knowing the whys, hows and how bigs of everything. My poor addled 30 something brain cannot cope with this onslaught.

So I thought some reference books would be good.

I'm thinking science, history, geography, legends, myths... Maybe alll we need is a good encylopaedia.

We already have two good children's atlases, with info on animals and climate.

We have one Usborne body book, that is ok, but not detailed enough for me really (it says things like "fruits and vegetables have useful nutrients for bodies" and I want it to say "like vitamins, and minerals, that we use to...".

We have one very complicated stars and space book that was DH's growing up.

We have one Orchard book about the legend of King Arthur which ds loves.

So, any suggestions?

My four year old loves 'How things work' an usborne book, includes all sorts of things. The only problem being he wants to read the whole thing each time!

Have a look at the Wonder wise books, they are fab.

I was going to suggest the wonderwise books too. My 4 year old is very keen. Some are better than others. The "What's under my bed?" one is brilliant.

I very much recommend these www.usborne.com/catalogue/beginners.aspx?cat=1&area=BEG&subcat=

My DD loves them.

All on amazon for about £3.50.
