I remember a book I read in eth 1980s, aimed at a teen readership.
In which a boy is educated on teh Isle of wight at a boarding school run my the establishment, he scores perfect marks in final exams and is thus sentt o work as "tea boy" to a half mad computer scientist in I think Cambridge.
Some how or other he ends up running away and hiding in the Fens where the local population are being spyed on my the establishment via bugging devices hidden in fly paper.
I think there is also an episode where he ends up in London seeing how the have nots live where a future is limited to such options as being a racer, a pinball player or a whore.

Can any one help me with a title as I have a hankering to read it again.

Blimey - sounds intriguing (and weird!). Doesn't ring a bell with me, sorry but I would love to know what it is!

I found it! A book called " Futuretrack 5" by Robert Westall. Now to find out if the library have a copy somewhere in the stack.

Great book. Only £1.91 postage included. I love Westall.
