Dd would like to read a detective/ crime novel! I don't know of any other than famous five or Sherlock Holmes which she isn't impressed with. I think she would like something a bit more modern . Any ideas please?

The Phillip Pullman series about a Victorian girl who's a sort of detective might be suitable? Ruby In The Smoke I think the first one is called. Not sure if they might be a bit 'old' for a ten year old tho.

She might like John Grisham's [[ Boone]] series about a 13 year old boy who wants to be a lawyer like his parents. They are very much a modern reworking of the oldfashioned child detective stories. My younger two (11 and 13) love them.

I have read the Philip Pullman Ruby books and definitely think they are a bit old for a 10yr old.
