She's always been a keen reader but is getting a bit stuck on what to read next.

She's read:

Harry Potter
Jacqueline Wilson
A lot of classics - Little Women, Anne of Green Gables etc
My Story books
Cathy Cassidy
When Hitler stole Pink Rabbit (and another by same author)
A stitch in time - Penelope Lively
The Tin Princess - Philip Pullman
Ballet Shoes
Theatre Shoes
Tennis Shoes

Probably loads of others but can't remember at the moment. She's very able so can cope with challenging books but at the same time I want reading to stay a pleasure not a chore.

Has she read "Journey to the River Sea" by Eva Ibbotson? Had that recommended to me recently on another thread and my 10-year-old DD enjoyed it.

Also (another recommendation from an MN thread!) Saffy's Angel by Hilary McKay.

The Circle Books by Tamora Pierce (there are other quarters and series by her too - all wonderful! The circle books are aimed at her age group. The others are brilliant, but do deal with some coming of age things that you may want to check first)
Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer (also his one offs like The Wish List)
Terry Pratchit
The Bartimaeous Trilogy
Little House on the Prairie
The Hobbit

YY to Casson family books (Saffy's Angel is the first one in the series, there are 6 or so) and Eva Ibbotson

I just got The Misfits & Addie on the Inside for dd prompted by another thread on here, they went down very well & she says there's another in the series.

DD also likes Calvin & Hobbes & Asterix for a bit of light reading

How about Percy Jackson, Charlie Bone (may be little young - but a great series) and The Mysterious Benedict Society?

She's read the Rose/Lily Holly Webb ones, really enjoyed those.

My oldest dd loved Charlie Bone but dd2 isn't keen. She's getting fussier as she gets older!

My 9yo DD has just read 'The Top Secret Diary of Davina Dupree' by S K Sheridan and she was completely addicted to it from start to finish, we loved the peace and quiet! Before that she read the naughtiest girls books by Enid Blyton and also likes Dianna Wynne-Jones books, which I also did at her age.

The Mr Gum books and Wilma Tenderfoot series are both very good.

chicaguapa · 31/08/2013 19:35

I always recommend the David Walliams books. DD (11) loves those.

Some of these might be slightly too old, but you said she was able...

The Hunger Games
GONE series - Michael Grant (like the Hunger Games)
Eragon series (about dragons)
Series of Unfortunate Events (funny)
Alex Rider series
Philip Pullman's dark materials
