Our February Picture Book of the Month is The Shape of My Heart by Mark Sperring and Alys Paterson. This book leaped out at us when it arrived at MNHQ because of the beautiful illustrations which explore the shapes of everyday objects and scenes. Children will love spotting familiar shapes on every page. Apply for one of fifty free copies, join the discussion on this thread and tell us what you and your dcs think and you'll be entered into a draw to win £100 of Bloomsbury children's books.

My ds1 would love this book. He loves shapes (thanks to a certain song on mister maker). And it would be a welcome break from Dino books.....

Its difficult to find good quality books that appeal to both pre schoolers and babies. This book looks like it strikes the perfect balance. If im lucky enough to win I'll look forward to to sharing it with my two little ones ( 4 and 18mths).

Received ours today, thank you! Will provide some feedback.

It's a lovely simple book with lots to talk about. Many pictures to point and name. The illustrations are vibrant and bright. Our LO particularly likes the transport pages. We love the shapes, so much for the young ones to learn about in one book.

Received the picture book this morning. Thank you. Bold, colourful, eye catching illustrations. Like Firewall's LO, DS liked the transport pages best. Said that the bear in the house at the window was his favourite toy. (When reading the book, he had to rush off at that stage to find him. Did come back to finish it off though when he was found.) Reminded me of the fun you can have with potato printing and shapes in general.

First of all I loved the colour scheme of the front cover - it was bright and vibrant. I loved that the shapes were a theme through out the book and weren't just traditional shapes, but everyday objects as well. My DD aged 5 had a great time telling me all the shapes - even though I knew she knew most of them

She ask learned new words like limousine and flamingo - which are great to add to her vocab

What I enjoyed most about the book was the opportunity to discuss what was going on in each double page (and there was lots!) it opened up her ability to tell the story in her own words

Overall it was a sweet book not only introducing children to shapes, but encouraging them to find the shapes that are all around them

We loved reading this book. It was great that each page had a theme and the shapes were ones that the kids could relate to and see around them. I like the way that the shapes are just any old shape but they represent something, they all have a name but they aren't labelled yet the kids know what they are!
We liked the way it explored the importance of the heart and love but in such a subtle way. We all enjoyed reading and discussing the book.

Thank you so much, I received a copy of this on Saturday. My four year old enjoyed it, but I felt there wasn't an awful lot in it to challenge him (he did enjoy looking at and talking about the pictures).
My almost 3 year old got a lot more out of it, he really enjoyed talking about all the pictures and the shapes he knows. I would suggest that it is perfect for 2 and 3 year olds.
I thought the pictures and colours were stunning, however I think in my head it was going to be similar to the book 'You Choose' with lots of opportunites to talk but it isn't really like that at all.
Overall, we all liked it, but it doesn't have the 'wow' factor I thought it would!

I really liked the look of this book and when I saw that people had copies arriving, I was a little sad that we hadn't been chosen - and then our copy arrived!

It's so pretty. So bright and colourful. Both my 5 and 3 year old wanted to touch and explore it and we had lots of fun spotting things in it and naming the things we could see. I loved the heats at the end and the dedication from Mark Sperring was lovely too.

I'm looking forward to sharing this with the children some more over the next couple of days. I think it will be more of a hit with the 3 year old, especially as she is enjoying "reading" by herself at the moment and this book gives her so many opportunities to do so without words. It's simple enough that my 5 year old might have a go too. I might even be able to get him to read to his little sister for me :)

Thank you for our copy. We enjoyed the illustrations in it very much and the way it had many pictures however because of the simplicity , it never looks cluttered. From the outset it appears it is more for toddlers as it has many things to explore and that appears to be the point of it. It kept our toddler well entertained and he was able to learn new words from it.

I loved this book read it my little one. There was loads of colour and shapes to talk about and what was going on too. The colours were so bright and was able to keep little focus on the book while I was reading it to her.
