LoveYouForeverMyBaby Wed 03-Oct-12 21:44:03 you forever by Robert Munsch, gets me every time!

BardOfBarking Wed 03-Oct-12 21:46:51

Oh I really despise this book. The mum sneaking into her grown son's house? makes me feel physically unwell.

Can you imagine the daughter in law on MN? " AIBU to ask my MiL to stop coming into my bedroom at night to rock my DH...." BLEUGH!

Loads of people love it though grin

LoveYouForeverMyBaby Wed 03-Oct-12 22:01:19

That's actually made me laugh out loud!! Okay yes in reality it would be a tad creepy(!) but it's just so beautiful....the bit where the mama is dying (sobs)

NomNomingiaDePlum Wed 03-Oct-12 22:06:16

i think this is pretty much the creepiest book in my house. i'd chuck it out, but it's dd's, and a gift.

i have promised dd that i will not stalk her when she grows up.

YoullLaughAboutItOneDay Wed 03-Oct-12 22:10:19

Nope, another one it creeps out.

I do say "I will love you forever" to DD every night before bed though.

I cry at the Velveteen Rabbit.

nilbyname Wed 03-Oct-12 22:12:43

I remember that book!

The one that get me is "Guess how much I love you" with Nut Brown Hare. Oh it is so lovely!

LoveYouForeverMyBaby Wed 03-Oct-12 22:13:24

Velveteen Rabbit god yes! Keep trying to read it to dd and can't because of the massive lump in my throat. Absolutely love it though! Sorry to go off topic - have not read the other one.

Wetthemogwai Wed 03-Oct-12 22:15:28

Is that the one Joey reads for Emma's birthday on friends? That's lovely but I've never seen it for sale sad must look on amazon

Dogger gets me every time and it did when I was a kid too!

YoullLaughAboutItOneDay Wed 03-Oct-12 22:17:06

Yup, it is mentioned in friends.

You need to be loved to be real. And it only happens when you are all worn and battered. Sniff, sniff.

nilbyname Wed 03-Oct-12 22:17:33

Dogger! "And Bella did a VERY kind thing", so lovely.

Stick Man gets me!

LoveYouForeverMyBaby Wed 03-Oct-12 23:35:09

Oh dogger! I loved dogger!

InvisibleHotPinkWeasel Wed 03-Oct-12 23:39:51

I tell dh he is my velveteen rabbit and that I loved his fur off (he had hair when we met) grin, the book makes me properly cry though.

So does That's Not My Cow! By Terry Prathett.

Bumply Wed 03-Oct-12 23:44:12

I can creep ds1 out by reciting "I'll love you forever, I'll love for always..."
He finds the book disturbing, as do I if it wasn't the only winding up weapon I have (he's 14 now, but never liked it since someone gave it him as a toddler)

2blessed2bstressed Wed 03-Oct-12 23:46:25

I love it...well up every time I read it, and cried like an idiot when I was telling my friend about it because she hadn't heard of it!

Feckbox Wed 03-Oct-12 23:49:47

yes, agree!

AWomanCalledHorse Wed 03-Oct-12 23:51:30

Goodbye Mog.

Saw it in Waterstones & the cover was enough to bring on the tears (was very pregnant at the time), have read it since then (not to DS) & am welling up just thinking about it.

I went to the funeral of a friend's baby when DS was six weeks old. The baby being cremated was 2 days old. One of the readings was a passage from The Velveteen Rabbit, the part about becoming real. Whenever I have seen the book since, it has brought a tear to my eye. Last year DS chose it from the library. I was 30 wks pg and in floods as we checked it out.

ripsishere Thu 04-Oct-12 07:19:06

this one gets me every time. It only has three words in it FFS.

NorksAreMessy Thu 04-Oct-12 07:23:22

nilby we still use that exact phrase when anyone in our family does something nice.
We loved Dogger totally and utterly

Lavenderhoney Thu 04-Oct-12 07:25:40

Stick man at the end.. And velveteen rabbit. Bambi is banned in our house, book and filmsmile Black beauty is another.

Ephiny Thu 04-Oct-12 07:33:56

I haven't seen this book, but it sounds horribly sentimental and creepy to me.

Black Beauty though, yes, haven't read it since I was a child but don't dare pick it up. Buckets of tears.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair Thu 04-Oct-12 07:34:20

I love you forever makes me sob and sob!!!
