Books for 11 year old girl

My daughter is going on her PGL trip next week and I really want her to have some good books for bedtime. She has read all the Harry Potters, all the Philip Pullman (Dark Materials) and loved them. She just finished all Helen Dunmore's Ingo Chronicles. And she has also read a lot of classics recently like Little Women, My Family and other animals, etc. Can anyone recommend something that would be a great way for her to take her mind off feeling a bit homesick. She's a bit nervous about being away for a week and the main thing she is worried about is lying in bed and not being able to get to sleep, even though I know she'll have her friends, she would feel better if she had a great book. Let me know your ideas! Thanks

DD is nearly 11 and loves all the books you've mentioned. She's also just been reading the Joan Aiken books - The Wolves of Willoughby Chase series, and some others by her, I can't remember the names.

There is another good series by Helen Dunmore, one of them is The Silver Bead, oh and The Lilac Tree I think.

She also loves lots of the books I have from when I was that age, Tom's Midnight Garden, The Children of Green Knowe, Moondial, The Secret World of Polly Flint.

There have been some more recently. I'll have a think!

My (just) 11yo DD loved The Hunger Games. She also really enjoys the How To Train Your Dragon series, Jacqueline Wilson's entire back catalogue (although may not be a good idea for going away), the Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging books and also the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.

But if you must, DD (nearly 11) quite adores the Jiggy McCue books, The Donut Diaries (either volume) or The Dork Diaries (all very funny).

Hunger Games as comforting bedtime read for a homesick 11yo girl?

Has she tried the C.S Lewis books? - The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe, The Silver Chair, The Magician's Nephew etc. I remember them being really absorbing.
Also, The Wolves of Willoughby Chase, Black Hearts in Battersea, Night Birds on Nantucket, all by Joan Aitken and part of a series are fantastic.

I bet you'll get her lots of lovely books and then she won't have chance to read them because she'll be having too much fun and then be exhausted at bedtime!

All the books everyone has suggested.

BUT - she will be absolutely exhausted every night, with no energy for reading. And if she doesn't crash out the minute her head hits the pillow, it will be because of high jinks in the bedrooms, not because she is homesick.

I really wouldn't worry - I've done PGL weekends with my Brownies and they really are full on. They don't give the kids a moment to think about home - it's just non-stop fun!

When I was 11 my favourite book was A Little Princess, soon replaced by The Dark Is Rising, which she might like if she liked Harry Potter - 11 year old boy inherits magic, fights against dark powers.
