Dd Y7 has been recommened to read it by her engish teacher as they will be looking at it later in the term. Dd came home and not sure about it and I can see why, the front cover 'brutal, blood-soaked full of zombies'. Dd does have a tendency to night mare often brought on but tv a few times by books but getting better at choosing books she feels might scare her.

Not sure if I'm been a worrying mother and the book is fine or is it as bad as it looks as I can't say the first to chapers were very nice.

It is pretty gory. No problem with the reading level being suitable for an 11 year old but, if she's sensitive, you may want to give it a miss.

Hi, I had Charlie Higson at my school yesterday!
Yes it is GORY, normally I would say kids are fine they love all that 'bulging eyeballs full of pus', but you know yr DD better than us!
Why not you read it first?
If they are looking at it in English would that put her at a disadvantage (unfair)
I also have some children at my school who are not allowed to read it because of religious reasons.
I have bought my son The Enemy, I will start reading it tonight and report back!

Dd stared to read the swimming pool scene in chaper 2 finished her reading as she didn't like it at all. Not the best start to secondary school me having to talk to her tutor within the first few weeks.
