Picking your brains! She is loving her books and we are on the old classics at the moment - Magic Faraway Tree, Mrs Pepperpot, Naughty Little Sister. When we go to the bookshop she will pick out the Fairy series (you know the Autumn Fairy etc) but do you have any recommendations for her that we are missing? Do you think Harry Potter yet?!

My DD (7.5) is a very good reader and we bought the Harry Potter books for her but she hasn't got into them yet. With hindsight I think she's a bit young. DD is reading: Malory Towers, Famous Five, Pippy Longstocking and the books she brings home from school.

Too young for Harry Potter - the later ones particularly are more for older children. Worst Witch would be better. Olga Da Polga - Michael Bond very good.

If you are after some books for her to read, does she like Horrid Henry or the Darcy Bussell books? Know my 6 year old DN loves those and DS who is also 7 loves reading Horrid Henry and Captain Underpants.

If it is books to read to her, I can second Mr Gum or how about Ballet Shoes or the Horrible Histories series.

Agree with the others that she is too young for Harry Potter.

My dd loved the 'My Secret Unicorn' series at that age, and also the Animal Ark books which I am sure your library would have millions of (there are about as many of them as there are of the Rainbow Fairies Grin ).

I agree that the Worst Witch might appeal. Also, what about the How to Train your Dragon books?

Thanks all - Ballet Shoes great suggestion! She loved the How to Train your Dragon film....will look at that and the Secret Unicorn. She has read the Worst Witch which is great isn't it!
