I desperately need more variety in what I am reading to DS - it feels like we've had the boks we're reading now for ages.

He likes:
Topsy and Tim (a lot!)
Paddington (again, a lot!)
Meg and Mog series
Anything by Julia Donaldson
Anything by Jez Arlbrough
Anything by the Ahlbergs
Anything by Mick Inkpen
Bright Stanley
Bear hunt
Tiger Who Came To Tea
Aliens Love Underpants
The Lamb Who Came To Dinner
Usbourne Farmyard Tales (Poppy and Sam)

Any recommendations please? In the past I've tended to buy whatever was cheap at the Book People/Red House/Bananas, but lately I've enjoyed buying books in Waterstones as its nice to have a leaf through first. Its just that there seems to be so much choice now (not a bad thing!) and I never seem to have enough time when I'm there to properly browse!

I was given a load of the Walker Nature Storybooks like this.

We've got the ones about the penguins, frogs, wolves, owls, tigers, pigs, polar bears and whales and they're absolutely lovely - DH loves them.

Oh and Chris Riddell picture books (Emperor of Absurdia and Wendel's Workshop), Harry and his bucketful of dinosaurs, Charles Fuge's Little Wombat books. All things which were a hit with DS at that age.

Quentin Blake - anything really, but the DSs particularly love the Mrs Armitage series, Mouse Trouble and The Wild Washerwomen (and I adore them too).

They also love anything by Richard Scarry. Not exactly storybooks, but hours and hours (and hours and hours...) of entertainment. Similarly, You Choose by Nick Sharratt - they would spend days deciding which food they'd choose from the food page. Confused

Agree with Alfie books - they are really wonderful. Also Dogger (also by Shirley Hughes) is a real classic, IMO.

Percy the Park Keeper.

You've mentioned Allan Ahlberg, but I think Burglar Bill is one of my favourites for reading out loud. I love it.

Erm...oh. Katie Morag books by Mhairi Hedderwick. He might be a little bit young for them yet, but DS1 adores them. Lovely illustrations.

Oliver Jeffers? We like The Way Back Home best, but also Lost and Found and The Amazing Book-Eating Boy.

Oh yes, Lynley Dodd - the Hairy McClary books are fab.

Giles Andreae books - Nat Fantastic
little tiger press books - I don't want to go to bed, it could have been worse
little croc books Tony Maddox
Blue kangaroo series - emma chichester clark (lovely books!)
'That's not funny' - jeanne willis (my almost 3yo loves this...lots of mishaps and ending up with the baddy in 'a big steaming pile of elephant POO' - guaranteed winner with my DSs!)
Some Dr Seuss - there's a wocket in my pocket, green eggs and ham

I find our local library a godsend though - its great to have 'fresh' stories every few weeks rather than the relatively limited number we own.

My dd is 4 and loves the "lost and found" books at the moment. There are a few in the collection, how to catch a star, the way back home and lost and found. They've bought the short film out of this one, which my DD loves to bits! Think we may have every book by julia donaldson too hahaha
Mog the Forgetful cat is popular in our house too.
