I need a girl book character for a dance

Bit of a strange request but I thought this would be the best place to post.

Dd does ballet and she's going to learn a new character dance to perform at festivals. It will be a short dance and involves classical ballet steps but also story telling and acting and use of props if necessary.

She can choose the character she wants to do and this is where we need help. These are dd's ideas so far:

Sara from A Little Princess
Wendy from Peter Pan
Veruca Salt from Charlie and the chocolate factory

As well as the character, there needs to be a bit of the book/story that she can perform in a couple of minutes that makes a story in its own right iyswim.

She really wanted to do Roberta from the Railway Children but someone else is doing this!

She's 10 btw and it has to be age appropriate (roughly).

Thanks.

I'm guessing she likes classics?
Does it need to be a female character for a reason?

How about:
Alice: Alice in Wonderland
What'sher face in The Magic Finger
Lyra: Northern Lights (that could be great to dance, I think)
My Naughty Little sister (ditto)
One of the Fossils from Ballet Shoes: Petrova would be good
Anne of Green Gables

Thanks, some great ideas. Pippi's a good one.

deepdarkwood - is Northern Lights Phillip Pullman? I'm not familiar with his books and dd hasn't read them. One of the Ballet Shoes sisters would be good, she's read the book and seen the film. Don't think Alice would work - dd has dark brown hair!

'The Firework Maker's Daughter' by Philip Pullman could be a good choice. I've seen that performed in an open air theatre and it was wonderful.

You could do a lovely "Mary Lenox" from Secret Garden.
Either one of her strops at Colin, or when she first gets into the garden.

I think Alice in Wonderland is popular for character.

I have heard on the past of someone doing Clara from the Nutcracker but that is obviosly from a ballet not a book (you can buy nutcracker dolls as the prop)

Dorothy from Wizard of Oz.

I like the Sara from a Little Pricess idea. Dd recently did a monologue from that for her LAMDA drama exam, the bit where she goes to buy the doll Emily with her Papa. Oddly enought she used her character skirt for the exam to helpo her get the posture for a period character rght as opposed to her modern day piece.

Yes, Lyra is Philip Pullman - an amazing book (well, trilogy) but perhaps asking your dd to read the book before she starts is a big ask Smile. Good luck to her
