What was/is your toddlers favourite book?

My dd is 1.2 years and loves books. As I live abroad most of her books are in Finnish. I have to buy English books online and miss flipping through the pages terribly. It's so hard to tell anything about a book from just looking at the cover on a computer screen.

What books were favourites in your house or what would you reccommend?

And we also read Boris books that have a puppet attatched.

Mog The Forgetful Cat (there is a series based on Mog. I have some of the other ones and my DD really enjoys them too) and The Tiger Who Came to Tea. Both are by Judith Kerr.

My DD got them for her 2nd birthday and they've been read nearly non-stop since (she's 3½ now).

Almost anything by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, or Michael Rosen (but be warned they can be VERY repetitive and VERY boring). His current favourite is Hugless Douglas. DS is 15 months

The Baby's Catalogue, and well most things by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.
The tiger that came to tea is a big favourite too, especially when he drinks the daddy's beer

Cave Baby (Julia Donaldson and Emily Gravett)
Emily Gravett is just a brilliant illustrator and we love all hers, especially "Monkey and me", "Orange, Pear, Apple, Bear" and "Meerkat mail"
Pumpkin soup series (Pumpkin soup, Pipkin of Pepper, Delicious)(last week's favourites) (Helen Cooper), also Tatty Ratty (good to have up your sleeve in case favourite toy goes AWOL)
This week we have moved on to Alfie and Annie Rose (but DD is a bit older than yours, so maybe leave these a while)

DD2 is 4 and her all time, best ever, favourite book is You Choose by Pippa goodhart and illustrated by Nick Sharratt. It's basically pages of wonderful pictures; 'What food would you choose if you were hungry?' with a double page spread of every food imaginable, from trifle, lobster or kedgeree to bangers and mash! 'Where would you want to live?' two pages of everything- gypsy caravan, high rise flats, tent, cave, even fairy castle and toadstool house. DD2 asks me to look at it with her every single day because the possibilities are endless. 'who would you like for friends?' 'What pets would you choose?' etc.

room on the broom - they could all recite it before they had meaningful speech lol. and then were still obsessed by the time charlie cook came out.

but yes, hairy maclary too. and slinky malinki. ten years later mine can still recite them off by heart. anything rhyming was a huge winner in this house.

they also liked the duck books - duck in the truck etc.

and MY favourite is 'five minutes peace'. because i am, in fact, mrs large.

dd1 and dd2: I think a 1970's primary school book "How is lego brick made" was about their favourite as toddlers. Over and over we read that. From the Oil refinery, down the pipes to the factory, formed into little multicoloured bricks, lorried off to the shops...

dd3 loved "Pants".

Also, ones they all liked and we could bear reading lots of times include: anything by Lauren Child or Julia Donaldson, Meg and Mog, Mog the cat, Commotion in the Ocean and Rumble in the Jungle. Hairy Maclarey.
