Adventure books for an 8 year old Blyton refusenik?

DD has asked me to look for adventure stories for her, but definitely not Enid Blyton.

She's a good reader having recently ploughed through most of the lemony snicketts; any ideas?

Treasure Island is a brilliant adventure book.

Alex Rider

Harry Potter- the first 3 aren't very complicated

Lion boy by Zizou Corder
Molly Moon series (can't remember author)

Is Alex Rider good for an 8 y/o? DD loved the Spy Kids films, but I'd always been under the impression that the Alex Rider books were really aimed at older children. If not, will have to suggest she looks for them in the library as they might be right up her street.

Not fictional adventure, but at the moment dd's reading an amazing looking book called The Lion Children which was written by 3 children who live in Africa with their mother, who studies lions.

Artemis Fowl, best kids books ever.
Jack Stalwart,
How to Train Your Dragon,
ROman Mysteries
Wizards of Droon

Alex Rider is really for kids who are a bit older, I think mine were about 10 or 11 when they read these.

My DC not reached this stage yet, but suggestions from my childhood: Joan Aiken: Wolves of Willoughby chase, Dido twite stories, many others
Cynthia Harnett, Geoffrey Trease, Rosemary Sutcliff, Jenny Nimmo "The snow Spider", Swallows and Amazons, of course! and lots more, but I really should go to bed now...

Also what about Jenny nimmo's series about a boy called Charlie with magical powers. I can't remember the titles but my daughter devoured all these when aged around 10.

Ps bizzarrely, everytime I type Jenny nimmo on my iPad it insists on trying to auto-correct it to "nimbi"! Not sure what this says about standard English....

What about Nim's Island and Nim at Sea? Great stories, and she might enjoy the film too.
