Hello

Anyone read the oxford reading tree range? Just wondered if they are any good I realise alot of schools have them in. My daughter is only one so obviously not expecting her to read them yet but wondered if the pictures were any good?

My eldest learnt to read using the ORT and DS2 age 4 has just read his very first book, an ORT book!
I really like the range. The stories and pictures are funny thought I wouldn't introduce them to your daughter just yet as there are only a certain amount of books and she may get bored.
PS Is your daughter's name Bella? Its my daughter's name and I thought it was incredibly rare but I met another Bella the other day Shock

They are awful!

Honestly, DS1 is in reception and I've had it up to my eyeballs with Biff, Chip and their kind.

Please don't inflict them on your DD until you have to. There are so many wonderful wonderful story books you can share with her before you have to get involved in this!

Also, you don't want her to be bored when she gets to school because she already has all the books.

How did you guess yes it is bella :) It is just that I have seen the Oxford reading tree range all 31 books for sale (£15) from the book people and wondered whether it would be a good investment for when she is older.

If you know which school she will be going to find out if they use the ORT. In that case I think it would be money well spent - for the future!
As fruitstick says stick to all the gorgeous story books for now.
Titles my brood like aged 1 or 2 were:
The Tiger who Came to Tea
Where the Wild Things Are
The Baby's Catalogue
The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Def avoid until you possibly meet them at school. They are reading teaching books and so lose a lot from having to introduce a certain kind of word. So so many stunning picture books. The good ones are art in words and pictures. However my favourite atvthe mo isn't that highbrow- smelly bill by Daniel postgate about a dog that likes rolling in muck!
Try owl babies, peepo, hug, anything from barefoot books, especially how big is a pig?, Alfie stories by shirley hughes

Can I say avoid like the plague?
Totally agree with littleby that Barefoot Books are great, our favourite was Secret Seahorse.

We bought the Bookpeople box set and DS (4 years, not at school yet) loves them. Plus we should get lots of proper use out of them next year when he starts school (and yes they do use Oxford Reading Tree at our local school).

They would have been too much age 1, but the Book People price is pretty good if you wanted to buy them for later.
