What about an older teenager? You could make it clear that "This is the pay, and this is what you will do!"

I agree with colditzmum - could you just "employ" a baby sitter in the evening and a cleaner in the day?

Agree with the baby sitter option. Are there any colleges nearby that might have some students in need of a bit of cash? They might even to so me housework for you as well.

If you decided to get an au pair, could you move DS1 and DS2 into the same room? We have a live-in nanny and DD and DS (due in May) will be sharing a room in order for nanny to have one of her own.

some childminders will do this and there are special needs childminders too..where do you live by the way?

I have no idea what costs in Brighton would be. But I don't think it's unreasonable to ask them to clean while the kids are asleep - they aren't doing anything!

I think you could get an 'older' person looking for some extra cash rather than a 'student'

I also think as its a regular thing you can set your own terms, ie if you want cleaning too specify it in job description

if I were you I would look to get 2 or 3 people so you aren't reliant on just one but have a pool of people to choose from should one of them be sick or unavailable

also if you get someone through a private ad, see if you can do a police check and certainly pick up references
