Childminder or nursery - which better for flexibility?

DH and I have managed to cut/ stretch our working hours so that we will only need one day a week childcare for DS2 when I go back to work in September.

The thing is, there will be odd days when I need more childcare - school holidays (when DS1 off school too), DH's occasional business trips.

Do you think I'd be more likely to find a nursery or childminder who could accommodate extra sessions? And if not, how do you deal with the extras? Apart from friends/grandparents/annual leave, of course.

In an ideal world I'd prefer a childminder, but around here they are pretty well booked up.

childminders are generally more flexible.
