How long should mindee be off for? How do you deal with parents paying? (says in policies parents must pay for care if their child is ill, as i have to have unpaid leave if my dd2 gets them)

Never had to deal with infectious illness before, what do you all do?

Oh dear! You'll have to contact all the other parents of mindees to make sure they are aware its doing the rounds. I only had one with chicken pox and tbh, all the other parents were happy for me to carry on with the child as they weren't bothered if they caught it or had already had it. I would have still asked for payment though, since I'm available to work. Its only 5 days these days, once the last spot has appeared. This is the info I got via Goddaughters GP on Friday, since she's got it too!

My dd2 hasnt had it yet.

What would you do?

Hi MMGs this is what I do: If other parents are happy for their child to mix with a child that has chicken pox then I take the child, unless I had things planned like toddler groups etc. As for payment I ask the parents to pay even if they don't come.

How old is she?

hennipenni Sun 12-Aug-07 12:44:09

Sorry, lmgs!

The problem is, if you had this mindee last week, she was contagious then as well, so chances are your dd may well get them anyway. Personally, I would rather my dd got them during the holidays, rather than during term time, when it'll be even more difficult to juggle things around. Its PITA wheneven they get them really, but at least if you haven't GOT to be somewhere, its a bit easier.

Agree with what others day but if other parents aren't happy about the mixing, I'd not take them but charge as their illness iyswim. I personally wish my ds could get it out of the way but he's never caught it even though has done the rounds at nursery!

I hadn't thought of it like that actually! Good point, if the other parents don't want you to have their kids, then you still have to charge, since you have said you would have them.

I have a cp policy - whcih states I will take children & if they choose to keep their children off (so thay don't catch it) they still have to pay

I've decided he will have to have a week off as other mindees mum isnt happy for him to come as her dd has already had them twice (has a weak immune system) I don't really want my dd2 to get them as if she does i will have to take a week off to nurse her and will lose more money during hol time than i would if she had it in termtime iyswim?

This mindee only went ft hours this week so think ill charge the old rate.

Thanks for all your help.
