Wonder if LT will see the chancellor tomorrow.

Back in 1992, at pre-school we had a 1:8 ratio, children aged 3-5yrs. We had structured environment whereby the adults set out the activities could choose between some of the activities, whilst others were compulsory such as each child got a turn at cooking, or some time trying to write letters, or counting objects. Are things too child led now?
With 1:8 ratio, children stayed for 2.5 hours, might have been a bit less. They were not there over lunch. So 1:8 ratio can work but does it work all day, when children may be doing 8am-6pm?
Wonder if the French system has structured sessions, break times (where the staff get a break from the children, other staff supervise children in the playground) then structured session, lunch (supervised by other staff) followed by structured session etc. Is that how they do things in other countries, so very similar to how we used to do infant school?
