... am thinking of posting on childcare.co.uk, nannyjob, and mumsnet (though am new member and not sure how to do that). Any other suggestions very gratefully received, as we're slightly running out of time ...

Live-out nanny wanted for 18-month-old girl, approx. 35 hours a week, central York, starting at the beginning of January. Must be able to speak and write good English. Minimum two years nannying experience, up-to-date CRB check and first aid certificate. Duties include light housekeeping. An ability to cook for children would be very welcome. Non-smoker essential. £8 an hour, gross. Please email cv and covering letter to ...

it's not much above minimum wage is it?

Why write good English? All our nannies have not had English as first language but with varying written skills- it hasn't really been an issue.

Also what days/ hours as 35 hours a week a bit vague.

also no CRB cert will be up to date as such, a new one is required for each new job, and it costs.

What does light housekeeping mean?

Do you have a cleaner / if yes then mention it

Adverts can often be quite long these days so list all the duties. Do you need someone who drives? Hours of work - 35 a week is not that many, is that over 3 days, 4 or 5? Could you give example of typical hours such as saying 7:30am-6pm.
Is the location precise enough - some systems will let you specify exact postcode, for those which don't consider if you want to give details of a local landmark so applicants know roughly where you are.

Thank you very much. Location isn't precise because we haven't moved there yet. We will be renting initially and have been told that properties for January won't come up until the end of this month. (Another great source of nervousness, but hey.) Will try to firm up hours but again, dh hasn't been given working pattern yet (new job). Will do more detail about light housekeeping - keeping baby's bedroom and the kitchen tidy is more or less it. Write was a mistake! Not bothered about writing ... though would like the nanny to be able to read comfortably to dd. v useful point re the CRB check. Found a nanny through an agency before, so didn't have to look into that myself. But agencies in York seem to charge an arm and a leg (again, if anyone knows any different, please say!) so would like to avoid that if possible

Also, what would the going rate be in York? Currently in much cheaper part of the country ....
