Other Au Pairs in Canterbury/East Kent?(17 Posts)
I am a Mum of 2 based just o/side Canterbury. Looking to possible get an Au Pair to help out before and after school. Can anyone recommend any good local au pair agencies to Canterbury.
willow there is a really active "au pair in canterbury" Facebook group, that has au pairs from all over east Kent in it. My aupair has met a lot of people via that, and she seems to have build up a good social life within the last month.
Hi, we are currently interviewing German au pairs to join our family in Broadstairs from February. Anyone in E Kent likely to have an au pair around that time? Also, I'm researching language schools: loads in Broadstairs but none that would cater for an au pair's needs (they are all intensive course). Has anyone in E Kent found anything suitable?
Hi, we have had a lovely French au pair join us last week. She is looking to build up a network of friends in Canterbury. Is anyone able to help put her in touch with another local au pair?
Hi Maryadams/squiffyagain, we have a lovely au pair starting soon, in medway. She would absolutely love to make new friends. If your au pairs are interested, do get in touch. Cheers!
I work as an au pair and I have a few concerns. I would really appreciate if you could give me your advice.
I work for a family with 2 children. The younger daughter is 10 and the older one is 23. What we agreed upon, with the parents, when we chatted on Skype, before moving in with them, was obviously looking after the young girl and doing light housework. The housework included hoovering the house, dusting, ironing, laundry.
When I first moved in, and also for a few months things were fine, but I realised that I was the only one doing all the cleaning. And from the duties previously mentioned I ended up being asked to do the windows, cleaning the radiators, all the cleaning, all the dusting, kitchen being cleaned separately, I also had to clean the oven, the dishwasher, clean all their dishes ( that they would just leave in the sink, dirty) change their bed sheets, iron the bed sheets and all their clothes (not only the kid's clothes). They also have 5 bathrooms that I have to clean by myself every week. On top of that I need to mop the floors, clean all the spider webs, the fire places. Basically everything that has to do with cleaning. Everything that can be cleaned in this house I need to do, including cleaning their daughter's room and tidying the mother's make up products. I work around 36 hours a week (M-F) and they also tell me that I need to work when they have guests or parties on the weekends but they never pay me for those extra hours. And sometimes they just go shopping during the weekends and leave the girl at the house, so I need to look after her.
What is more, I am the one cutting the onions, vegetables and salad for dinner everyday.
I feel more of a house cleaner than an au pair. And I also feel like they, especially her, doesn't really care about other things as long as I clean her house. Also I feel that she just used the girl as an excuse to get a cleaner, pretending she needed an au pair. Although she is never in charge of the little girl, I am the one showing her around and teaching her everything. When I first arrived the girl didn't even know how to tie her shoe laces, how to blow her nose, how to put her things back in their place etc. I showed her and taught her to do all that.
He is a lawyer and she is a doctor.
I don't know what I should do, because they don't treat me bad, they are not rude but somehow in a very discreet way they just ask me to do more and more. And when I try to talk to her, she barely lets me speak, always saying that I am like a daughter to them and I eat at the same table with them. Leaving no space for me to complain or just tell them what I feel.
I am paid 80£ a week.
I don't know exactly what type of housework au pairs are supposed to be doing and I am very confused.
Hi, i'm francesca, i'm 25 and i'm from italy. I'm looking for an au pair family in Canterbury. I studied english there for five weeks and I fell in love with the place.
Anyone knows a family looking for an au pair?
Yep. Still here. Have a lovely German girl with us. PM me.
most of this discussion happened last year - now (Jan/Feb 2014) we are also looking for any au pairs local to Canterbury or East Kent - our lovely au pair from Prague knows no one apart from us in the UK - is anyone still out there ?
many thanks Mary
Hi, we have a Spanish Au Pair who joined us last week and like some previous posts, we want to help her build up a network of friends. It seems in London there are various networks/forums for au pairs to meet up, but Kent seems to have limited forums.
A friend and I who use au pairs are looking to start a forum up for families of au pairs, so let us know if anyone is interested in joining, so watch this space.
For the time being though, if anyone has an au pair who is interested in meeting another, please get in touch.
We are a British Council accredited language school in Canterbury and occasionally provide free language classes for European workers and au pairs as a community project. I am happy to provide more information if you require this.
Hello. I have a 20 year old French au pair who is dying for boredom in Faversham... Did the 3 of you above ALW, Squiffy and HECC manage a meet up for your au pair's? Must be pretty daunting for them but I'm happy to chaperone the first 10 mins for them, if needed. :-)
Hi! I have a lovely au pair who would love to meet up with other au pairs in Canterbury. Did you have any luck finding people for your to socialise with?
I have a lovely Austrian au pair who is struggling to meet people in Canterbury.
Any advice on what she could do or where she should go to meet other au pairs? I have tried the local language schools but their teacher training classes are all over subscribed.
I don't want boredom to send her home!
I know two girl APs and have a male AP myself. there are a group of about a dozen of them that meet up every few weeks. PM me.
Anyone know of any Au Pairs living in or around Canterbury or East Kent?
Our ex Au Pair is coming back to look after the kids just for the summer hols, she probably won't sign up for English classes so thought I would ask around here for anyone she can meet up with at weekends so she doesn't get too bored with us?
We are new to the area ourselves so have not met any AP's yet....
