Police checks for French au pairs

I'm wondering if anyone knows if its possible to organise a police check in the home country if recruiting a French au pair? Having done a bit of research it looks as though au pair agencies will organise this for you (so one of their best selling points I guess). However, if we use a website such as Au Pair World or Gumtree could we organise the French police check ourselves or via a service set up for this purpose? Has anyone done this?

I'm in France at the moment and had to get a police check so I could help out at dc school. Since I was born in Uk I just sent a form in to the casier Judiciaire National and they sent something back saying I was in the clear.

Your potential au pair can apply for this herself (on-line by the looks of it if she was born in France) at the site below. She would then pass on her "proof" to you. Only cost me a self-addressed envelope!

Exactly as dilbertina said and don't worry about interpreting it. A clear check will come back with a diagonal black line across the page.

It's easy and very quick, much quicker than a British CRB.

Brilliant, thanks for your help! I was expecting a complicated process like we have in England - so sensible of them to keep it simple! Does anyone happen to know if it is as straightforward to get a medical report from their doctor? I notice au pair agencies say they do this as well!

Potentially slightly more complex as their GP may not do it - they may interpret the request as needing to go through a doctor specialising in occupational health. It depends what you'd want to know.

Well I suppose I just would like to know that they don't have any lingering health problems and if they do, what they are - I saw that au pair agencies said they did a medical report for au pairs so thought it might be a good idea. Having read a few posts on here of some au pairs apparent health problems and their not being well enough to do the job I am hoping not to land an au pair of that type! Probably not looking for anything specific though - not an opinion from a doctor as to whether they are suitable to be an au pair.
