Message from self.
Must take heed.
Just make sure you're all packed and ready and go in as soon as anything starts off.

Unless you'd consider having it at home?

Have you got everything in place so you can just jump in the car and go, champs?

I know just how you feel, about to deliver db3 and worried about a fast labour! I've got at least 30 mins drive to hospital (possibly an hour if during the night!) - how far have you got to go to the hospital? Can your mum come and stay overnight for a few nights so you can just set off without having to wait for a babysitter? Or can you get a neighbour to come round until your mum arrives?

Just going through the various things we've put in place in case this db puts in a hurried appearance ... HTH!

spidermama -- i still haven't packed yet
will get dh to get case down when he gets in from work.
deff dont want baba at home. last time it was just me and ds1(5at the time) at home and this time will be the same except with ds2(will be 2)

Miaou -- mum will be away!! sob. dh mum will be on standby for kiddies. Hosp is about 45mins-hr away but if things look fast there is one closer which i will run to.

I always have wierd dreams when I am pregnant. I had one where I had to deliver at my old school and I was walking around lost for hours not being able to find the right room!!!
Also had one that was well wierd.. I dreamed I had to deliver the baby really early and then it was wrapped in cling film..still attatched to me and staped to me where it stayed till its due date!!!
Not sure what this says about me!!!!

champs, I found the best way to allay these fears is to think through every possibility and have a plan for each scenario. It sounds a bit anal (and probably is!) but once I had done all these things I really started to relax.

So - Miaou says (bossily):

  1. Pack your bag now (or lay out all the stuff you need/want so you can put it in the bag when dh gets home).

  2. Make a list of anything you want/need so you can go and get it tomorrow (or get dh to get it) - eg newborn nappies, breast pads, disposable knicks etc

  3. Set up the crib/moses basket so that it's all ready for you and you don't have to worry about it when you arrive home knackered with new baby!

  4. Talk to dh's mum. Is she far away? Is she prepared to come at a moment's notice, eg at 4am? If you were to ring her at that time of night, would she hear the phone? (I've got my mum and dad carrying their mobiles with them at all times and they've put the phone extension in their bedroom)

  5. How will you get to hospital if dh is at work? Will you get MIL to take you in, or an ambulance?

  6. If you go into labour and it's really fast, can you call an ambulance and get a neighbour to look after the ds's until MIL arrives?

Honestly, once I'd got all the bases covered I started to relax - I don't think I realised how much it was stressing me out until I thought through each possible scenario.

Hope this is useful and sorry for being bossy...

When are you due? (I think we're due about the same time IIRC?)

if things do take you unawares then you will manage!!
My last one was almost 2 weeks early.
I was having contractions whilst dd ran around finding my stuff to pack my bag!
DH was dithering whether to do a dj gig he had!!!!! My mum (who was planned to sit) was away! So we had to get mil. I still got to hospital and still had a baby.
Lets face it all you really need is you!!!
Everything else can come in later!
