Hi, my sister had her baby on New Years Day after an emergency c-section. Last night, she had to be rushed to hospital (by her dh, WITH newborn...as it was impossible to get through to 999!) because after the midwife took her stitches out this morning, she started bleeding and her wound opened up. They have stitched her up again and she is still in hospital, unfortunately I can't get to her (because of ds and snow!) but really worried about her and have only been in contact with her by text.

Has this happened to you? Any tips/advice? How long was your recovery?

Baby is with her but she did mention he wasn't feeding very well - I wonder if he is feeling the stress.

Happened to the wife of a colleague 17 years ago - and she was absolutely fine afterwards if that's any consolation

Hi whethergirl, glad to see you found your way here! Just thought I'd check in on how your sister was doing.

Thanks everyone. Thanks Lilybunny, she's still in hospital, in some pain and just wants to be home with the baby. She feels a bit down but says she feels better whenever she sees the baby, so at least that's a good sign.

Only managed to have a proper conversation with my sister today as she is now out of hospital. Basically the INTERNAL stitches had come apart, so once the midwife took the external stitches out, thats when it all opened up. It was awful...she saw her own intestines and her dh was stuggling to keep all her insides in. She went back to the private hospital where she gave birth, they stitched her up internally again...and then had the cheek to charge for it . They don't know why the internal stitching came apart and are sending the threads that were used for investigation.

My sister was horrified and scared out of her mind when they had to take the dressing off, to the point where she has been advised to take counselling. She didn't want to cause a fuss about paying for the 2nd lot of internal stitches, she said because she fears she may need to go back if something goes wrong again. But family have advised to take them to court when she is better.

My sister and her dh are not loaded, just felt they wanted the personal attention given by private hospital care, to give them the security and reassurance they needed for their first born. She had been brilliant up until this episode, coping well with baby and being really relaxed and cool about it all. Now she is in pain, is not allowed to lift her baby and is feeling traumatised by the whole experience

Poor thing!

I never had my stitches taken out, I assume they just dissolved. Is it a new thing to remove them?

she had to go back into theatre again, because, well, her insides were out.

It's mosschops hon, have a look, her story is split into parts 1, 2 and 3. It's a scarily similar story.

Mosschops also works as a nurse at the hospital where her section was done, it might be useful to look carefully at the specialist support she's being given and look into what's being offered to your sister.

Again, wishing her a v speedy recovery xxx

Thanks decafgirl, will have a look at mosschops' story and tell my sister - she might want to read it too.
Thank you ManyMonkeys, it is indeed shocking and unexpected.

decafgirl, are you referring to mosschops30? Have had a look through her threads and can't find one about ruptured c sect stitches....
