Anyone need inducing with a second baby despite spontaneous labour with the first?

I am currently a week overdue and just wondering on other peoples experiences. With my dd I went into labour naturally just two days overdue. This time I have no real signs things are moving at all and I am wondering if I will need to be induced. I have an appt to discuss it tomorrow as they like to take us in at 10 days here. I am tempted to ask to be left until 14 days but on the other hand I don't want to wait if it will result in induction anyway. I know there is no real way of knowing but your experiences would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, I went into labour spontaneously at 40+8 with DS1, but was induced at 40+10 with DS2 - mainly because they had a slot free! I did what I could to avoid it with DD and had her at 40+11 although they had already booked me in to be induced at +14.

You do not have to be induced if you don't want to be, they might try and make you come in every day for a check up though. At the end of the day see why they want to induce you, if it's just what they do, don't let them pressure you into something you don't want to do.

I went into labour naturally with no1 at 40wks+2 but was induced at 41wks+3. That labour was only 4hrs, though!

Thanks for your replies. Interesting. At least your labour was short and sweet Suedonim (great MN name btw). This is what I would hope for. I will go armed with questions tomorrow I think thank you Serenity.
I was quite anti-induction before being overdue myself lol.
Right I am signing off for tonight (I am two hours ahead of the UK where I am so it is time for The Bill and then bed ......hope for some more responses in the morning...... TIA

Sorry Happymum - Thanks to you too. I am pretty sure on my dates but my cycle was irregular (short) for the few months before I conceived so I think I should be patient......

Hi Cooperoo, I went into labour naturally with both of my kids. With the second, who is now 5 weeks old, I had no symptoms at all either and he was born at 40+4 with a 2 hour labour, so no signs doesn't necessarily mean that nothing is happening. Good luck and I hope you don't have to wait too long now

cooperoo ds1 was 2 days early, but with ds2 I was 8 days late, and had no signs things were moving until labour began. I had an appointment booked to discuss induction but they would have left it till 2 weeks over for it.

I went into labour natrually with dd1, with dd2 I went 10 days overdue and was given a sweep - she was born 48 hours later (natrually)

Thanks for your replies. I find it really interesting as I had totally assumed that I would go into spontaneous labour this time as it all happened so well with dd. More proof that all pregnancies are different. I had a sweep today and so I am feeling positive about things. Fingers crossed.

My mother did. Spontaneous labour with me but induced at 43 weeks with my brother.

Spontaneous with DS1, three days over due date but DS2 just wasn't up for labour . I was 10 days over by the hospital dates and nearly three weeks by mine, so I was more than happy to go for an induction. Yes, they tried a sweep and I had a couple of twinges and then, he settled back in.

Labour felt more intense second time round, but heh, I was 3 cm at 9 pm and had given birth just after midnight, with no stitches. Getting around after the birth was also a lot easier. Good luck.
