I had dc3 in hosp alone since dh cd not get to hosp in time. Funnily it was easier without him there. I really let rip (as it were) and managed with only gas and air that time!!

My friend had her second on her own as her dh fainted the first time.

She was fine, she said that the midwives were very supportive and attentive to her.

I was on my own when I had DS, as my DP did not make it to the hospital in time either.

DS was 7 weeks early and the labour was extremely fast (born 20 minutes after getting to the delivery suite). Fortunately I was already in hospital, my waters having broken the night before, otherwise I would not have made it in time either!

I will be honest and say that I was sad not to have DP there - especially as this was our first child, but I also know there was nothing he could have done to get there any quicker.

I also wished that DP had been there to advocate on my behalf. For example, it was only after the birth that they told me it had been necessary to do an episiotomy (they did not ask for my consent at the time).

I don't want to worry you - my circumstances were pretty unusual. If the delivery is straightforward, I have no doubt you would be absolutely fine on your own.

If you do want you DP to attend, try asking at your child's nursery if any of the staff would do babysitting as a one-off. Maybe that could be an option for you?

I was on my own (no partner and no friends with children, and didn't want to put that kind of pressure on a childless one!).
It wasnt bad. I could please myself, do what felt right etc.
The thing I missed was I had to ask for attention, to the extent that I had to ask twice for paracetamol, and then insist on being examined when I got them. They weren't going to, and I'm glad I insisted, as they immediately whisked me to the delivery room, and I promptly had ds!
In retrospect, I think I got alot less attention than the mothers who had someone with them, as I had no-one to look out for me, and I was left alone for long periods of time with no-one checking. Luckily, I was fine, but I do wonder what would have happened if I had had problems, or if I hadn't insisted on the check-I think I would have had ds on my own, tbh!
Good luck!

I ended up giving birth at the hospital alone, because we only had childcare until 6am, at wich point dh had to go get the dc to school, and by the time he got there at 9.30am, dd was already born. It was difficult because I got to transition on my own, and since I ws having a vba2c with very little support, I had to hold my own against midwives who wanted me to lie down on the bed for monitoring. I had gas and air, and got into a major strop when told to lie down, and kept repeating the phrase "I believe it is my choice". I did feel a little sad when dh didn't get back in time, But, we did what we had to do. I wouldn't recommend that you give birth alone, it is really lonely.
Can you get a doula?
