I have been to the delivery suite tonight. Am 38+1.
Had a MW appt and discussed , yet again, my constant feeling of dampness. She said to go to DS to check if waters had gone. She thought it was urine.

So I went in and was put on the moniter and was having cx. Bh or real , who knows? But they were 'registering' on the moniter and I was uncomfortable with them and breathing and shutting eyes etc. They were quite close together.
They did an examination and said that my waters were intact but bulging. Dampness was probably discharge.
They did a scan too to check position of baby as MW wasn't sure about position of head. It is above/ inline with pelvis.

They told me to walk around and see what happens for an hour, but nothing did so we went home.

On my notes it says this

VE - cx postencv (sp? hard to read writing)
1cm long
stretchy
4cm dialated
membranes bulging
cannot feel vevtex/vertex(can't read it well) in pelvs.

Then later it says vevtex/vertex 3/5's palpable stable in pelvis.

On my MW notes from 2.30pm it says 1/5 palpable.

So Mnetters I would love it if you could explain some of these . I understand the membranes bulging bit and thought 4cm was a positive sign but have since read on here that with 3rd babies you can be dialated for ages... So maybe it's not as positve as I thought.
I did have strong verging on painful cx last evening for a few hours and today have felt uncomfy all day.

Do you think something is going to happen tonight???

Hospital MW said that she thinks once my waters go it will happen quickly...

I can't say I am an expert by any means, but if I had that written on my notes, I would be expecting to give birth in the next 24 hours. Get plenty of rest if you can!

I had "leaky" waters which felt very damp rather than soaking. Also very strong BH. Started on sat night, checked on the sunday (waters intact), sent home and told to come back monday. Monday mild contractions started at 2pm (I couldn't feel them but they registerd) baby born 4 hours later

Yep I can say that once my membranes burst baby number 3 arrived 10 mins later. That was after 3 1/2 hours of cx.

It does look good for you, but you know these babies come when they want to!!!

Good luck lady.

Thanks
Ooh so maybe positive then??!!

What does 1cm long mean. I'm assuming it's my cervix. Is it supposed to be long or short??

And how about the top line 'cx posten-something'....

connor she really didn't think it was my waters , said on notes I was dry 'even when I coughed'!!

I was told my hind waters may be leaking but they didn't say for sure. I know it wasn't urine though. Loss of bladder control came afterwards

Cervix posterior means that your cervix is further back, so that your baby's head can be felt first. Usually your cervix moves forward, or anterior, in active labour.

1cm means that it's not completely effaced yet and is still 1cm long, but stretchy and 4cm dilated is a good sign I think.

If it encourages you at all, I went into hospital 4cm dilated with my second baby, and gave birth within 3 hours. Good luck!

Thanks TTT.
So the top one isn't great then?

And what does efaced mean?

Effacing is a term for the cervix getting thinner and stretching in preparation for the baby coming through.

As far as I know, the cervix can become anterior during labour, so it might not mean that you still have ages to wait. Do lots of walking! I went on a trampoline which seemed to help, but I'm not recommending it!

Any news Mel?

It sounds as if your cervix is exactly how a para 2 (had 2 previous babies) would 'feel' to me too. The fact that your cervix is 'stretchy' would indicate the 4cm is a 'multip's os' i.e have had previous children. I wouldn't worry about it being 3/5 or 1/5 palpable as it is very subjective and with baby no 3 it is of no real consequence until labour is established. I am with your midwife, once those waters go you will go off like a rocket I bet! (Assuming your previous labour and deliveries were all normal). I would expect your cervix to be 1cm long and posterior at 38 weeks and before labour starts, with baby no 3 this will change very rapidly. Good luck.

Nothing yet suwoo!

Reikizen so does this mean that nothing is imminent then?? And that 4cm is just because I've had 2 babies?? Surely I can't always be 4cm dilated, I have heard that you don't close up fully after having had a baby but 4cm is a lot imo!!

Does bulging waters mean anything positive??

I'm bouncing on a ball at the moment.

I think that whoever examined you could stretch your cervix to 4cm which is quite normal for a third baby. I also think that when things happen they will happen quickly and that bulging waters would confirm that suspicion if I were looking after you. It means that the waters are not tight to baby's head so I think when they go baby will drop into the pelvis and start to really dilate your cervix. I'd rest, eat, sleep and just wait for nature to take it's course. (It may have already done so!)
