Childbirth

anyone fancy a labour thread?

so it looks like my wee boy has finally decided to be born at some point this week - contractions started this morning (exactly when my DP's alarm went off!), and after a 'quick' 3 hours in the hospital due to bleeding, I'm back home and sitting it out until they get worse.

About 8-10 minutes apart just now, and fairly breath-taking!

but kind of boring in between times... so please come and keep me entertained!

Hello!

How many weeks are you?

Are you all ready?

Report
arolf · 24/09/2009 14:15

40+4, had attempted sweep yesterday which the midwife told me probably wouldn't have any effect

feeling very very ready for him to arrive!!

What is happening now?

Report
arolf · 24/09/2009 14:21

I'm making moaning noises a lot

just trying to breathe through each contraction, and walk around a bit, although walking seems to make the bleeding worse.

not quite at the timing contractions stage yet though. just a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing, as mw told me yeaterday I'd prob need induction next week!

if yu are still bleeding should you call the hospital?

Report
arolf · 24/09/2009 14:32

hi, hosp told me not to worry unless bleeding gets very bad (but not what very bad actually means) - had an exam this am and they said they are not worried, plus baby is very active still.

am resting as much as poss, but prefer being upright, as lying down hurts much more.

oh, and learnt that getting out of the shower mid-contraction is a BAD IDEA and may reslt in desturction of good shower curtain. whoops.

will go and see other threas

devilsadvocaat · 24/09/2009 19:48

still no ctx

also have family calls a plenty. they're so excited!

think i'm set to be induced tomorrow. dammit.

i want your pain arolf!

enjoy walk - take a phone

Report
arolf · 24/09/2009 20:13

gah, they've slowed again - walk helped a bit with the pain though! they're certainly getting much more painful, but not any closer together. not sure what to do really, just sitting it out until I can't cope anymore I suppose. will probably call hospital in the morning if nothing is progressing.

think I'm going to curl up in front of crappy TV for a while and see if that helps

Have you both tried nipple tweaking? (Sorry, that's a bit personal but it won't be long until you are posting details of mucus and cervixes, so I figure it's ok!)  It might just help get things going.

arolf · 24/09/2009 21:04

haven't tried that mrshappy - what's the theory and how is best to do it?!
And I've already been posting about mucus, so nothing is too personal anymore

enjoy your chocolate devils! I just ate some rice and am contemplating chocolate (just to keep my energy levels up, of course!), but we'll see.

why won't these contractions get closer together?!

The theory is that nipple stimulation is good for making your body produce oxytocin which gets your contractions going.

I suspect that most women probably just have a twiddle themselves but have read stories about women getting their husbands to "nurse" (for want of a better word, god that is twee).

I did read something about doing only 20 minutes or so and then having a break, but that all sounds quite prescriptive to me.

Anyway, it has got to be worth a try!

ok, will have a go if nothing's happening later on

my poor mother is getting so fraught at the other end of the phone, and just wept 'I can't believe my baby is in labour!' - heard my wee sister in the background going 'it's not your baby mum, it's arolf's' my sis is 22 btw...

hope I can give them good news tomorrow!

(why wasn't frankie boyle on MTW this evening?!)

well, contractions appear to be getting more regular and more painful, but nothing too dreadful yet, so have sent my DP to bed whilst I moan downstairs watching QI on Dave now, and then will see what else is on to keep me going! not even trying to sleep as lying down just hurts so much at the moment!

baby just gave me a few hefty kicks, so he's quite happy for the time being.

good luck devils, hope to see you online in the middle of the night too
