When does a second baby engage?

That's it really!

I am coming up to 35 weeks so realise it is early days and this baby's head is down but free.

My DD was engaged to a lesser or greater degree by about 32 weeks (not that it helped: she was nearly 2 weeks late and got stuck), but I suppose I am hoping for a sign that I don't have another 7+ weeks of giant-waddling-full-of-cold-crying-for-minor-reasons-sleepless-hormonalness to go, so was really hoping that it does not matter that this baby has not yet engaged.

Thanks!

I'm 36 weeks and the head is 4/5 and has been for the last 2 weeks. This is DC2.

1st Baby was pretty much engaged from 34wks, born 40+3.
2nd Baby never engaged, was induced at 14 days overdue.
3rd baby I am 38+wks pregnant, been to midwife today and this one is still 'free'. Hope that's not a bad sign sad don't want to go really overdue again!

First baby engaged from about 35 weeks, I think. Pregnant with second, 38+, saw a midwife yesterday and the baby's head is apparently 3/5 engaged. However, she advised me that it could pop back out, so I should not get too excited ...

Hi dd1 head engaged at about 36 weeks. DD2 head didn't engage until labour. Looking at the responses anything goes!

Thanks all - I do hope that anything goes! I am aiming for a VBAC and have this fear that lack of engagement might be used an an excuse to call it off...

Is there any way I could encourage this baby to engage?

Head may well not engage until you get some really strong contractions in labour, pretty normal with second or more babies.
Try bouncing on a birth ball if you have one to encourage the head in the right direction or squatting if your thighs can cope.
