My sister has gone into labour 5 weeks early and in wales, (as opposed to london) What will she need?
how long is she likely (all going well) to be in hospital with a 5 week prem.
are they l;ikely to transfer her or is she more likely to stay in wales.

was supposed to be lending her lots of baby clothes, but they proberly won't fit a prem baby will they?

any help will be really appreciated sa I can see us dragging stuff over there tomorrow (all going well)

My sister had both her babies prem and in theory the baby stays in until around time of expected birth (in practice for her, more like 2 weeks before that). Both her babies were very well and good weight, so lots depends on factors that you don't know yet. I don't know about transfer chance.

In our experience, the babies didn't wear much in SCBU (just a nappy and a hat, possibly a vest) because of the monitors and feeding tubes.

Your sister will probably feel like a zombie (even more so as she's so far from home) and just be grateful for you to come and see her, make a fuss of her and the baby and listen to her worries.

Best wishes to you and your sister.

My Ds was born at 35 weeks - he was a good size, but not terribly well at birth, and we stayed in SCBU for a week. Some babies wouldn't need to go to SCBU at that gestation though, and some take longer to start feeding well.

I suppose the transfer would depend on how long they think the baby would need in - if it's only a few days then they will prob keep them there I think, if longer would try and transfer.

She'll just need the usual stuff - vests, babygros and nappies, plus nighties/pjs for her. Pads, breastpads etc too. SCBU had plenty of clothes for DS to wear there, so don't worry about getting any till you know the weight.

Obv someone will need to take them a carseat to bring baby home too.

Where in Wales are they ? My friend had her twins in the Royal Gwent recently as there were no NICU beds where she lives, so if they need info about there, I can ask her - they were there for 4 weeks as were v tiny

She will need Chocolate, money for the payphone and snack trolley. A nail file, some nice toiletries for herself, some magazines. Plus everything mentioned before.

As for the babies, I would wait to see what weight they are.

Tesco do some good early baby clothes if you want to take something tomorrow.

And don't forget your camera.

Thats a good weight for 35 weeks. Everyone was at DS being 6lb 5oz when he was born.

If she needs to express for him, it's much better to hand express for the first few days as you catch all of the colostrum which is hard to move with a breast pump. Also it stimulates the breast more

withybush is quite small. If there were any problems then they would have been transferred to Swansea so mum and baby must be doing well at least your sister has your mum with her. She will be able to get stuff for her.
5lb 10 sounds great for 35 weeks. My friends baby was that at 37w.

There is a Tesco and Asda in Haverfordwest I believe if you need to get any baby supplies. Weight sounds good - DD was only a lb heavier and a week overdue.

My DS was a pound lighter than that at 10 days overdue! They kept us in about a day and a half. Adsa do good early baby stuff (which is up to 7lb ish I think) quite cheaply.
Congratulations to her

whoops, I meant an oz lighter - not a pound. hat would have been a bit extreme.
