How quick is 2nd labour?

Hiya,
Im currently 23weeks (ish) preg with 2nd child. With 1st ds, I never even knew i was in labout, thought it was just painful pelvis probs lol. Went to hospital to get stronger painkillers and was told i was about 2-4cm dilated (which also means i was in labour for a long time before i even got there). On way to hospital, contractions were timed at every 4 minutes!!
I would love to stay home that long again this time around, but is it sensable for 2nd timers?

My second labour was longer than my first....and both were marathons (established laaour was quicker though, I just had a longer phase of `pre-labour' pains. Still had plenty of time though!).

Oh, it's you, MP. As you know: first 36 or thereabouts - and would have been longer if they hadn't ventoused out distressed baby; second seven hours start to finish, whoosh.

thanks mi yes it's me.

My mum's first was 24 hours and her second 90 minutes - this is my mantra.

sorry, MP, have been out this evening.

First: 50 hours, 27 of which in established labour'. ds born by ventouse after 4.5 hours in second stage (I had an epidural ... bliss).

Second: 3.5 days!!! 10 hours in established labour'. But no need for ventouse (although they were going to do one but then he just popped out).

Well, I was just a bit tired after that.

6 weeks ago my dh delivered our ds (second baby) on our bathroom floor!! I had the first twinge at 2pm and he was born at 4.50pm. The contractions were definitely not as strong as the first time round (possibly due to my rather overenthusiastic use of my tens machine?) which is what threw me - all of a sudden I felt myself pushing!!!

First labour - 30 hours from being induced to DS1 finally being pulled out with forceps.
Second labour - 2 hours from first pain to midwife catching DS2 as he flew out with only 3 pushes

Mrs BGDs first labour was about 7 hours, second one was very short. DD2 was born on the bathroom floor with ambulance men arriving for the last 5 minutes!!

My first was about 12 hours with 30 mins of pushing; 2nd was about 5 hours with about 20 mins of pushing; third was four hours and 4 pushes (about 5 mins!)
Wooh they just keep getting better!
I think what it often is is that you know better what you are doing and how to manage it/deal with pain/keep moving to speed it up etc.
