The story thus far:

Friday: Mucus plug gone at noon

Saturday: Big gush of something at 12:30, thought waters had gone, midwife says no, I am merely the queen of discharge. Contractions starting at 6pm, timed between 5-7 minutes, pain manageable.

Sunday: Timed again between 2-3am, 3-5 minutes, still manageable but more painful. Stubbornly refuse DH's suggestion to call hospital, but made him take a shower and took one myself just in case. Slept a bit between 4-5:30, but contractions got much worse. On toilet at 6:30 and had another lot of fluid I swore was waters leaking. Wasn't peeing and couldn't stop it using pelvic floor muscles, so really thought that was it. Contractions coming a lot and painful, feeling like I wasn't getting a break. Gave up and called labour ward.

And now: Sent back home again after hours of waiting, inconclusive whether waters have broken, not dilated at all, and very pissed off.

Contractions still coming every 5-8 minutes, can barely walk, and in a foul mood. How am I supposed to tell when it is time to go, when all indicators said I should go last time!?

fuckity fuck. Please tell me to stay home and not phone anyone next time.

Hello Yank, just popped over from August 2009 thread to offer you a bit of support.

I was in this boat last week, it's horrible thinking that you are all systems go, only to be sent home.

Please try and get some rest, I know it's hard but maybe your body is recognising that you have had a knackering weekend and a couple of hours' lie down with a DVD and a plate of whatever you can keep down will give you the boost you need.

It almost certainly was your waters Yank. They often can't tell whether it was or not, but leave you feeling like a numpty when they assure you it wasn't. Mine with child 1 sprung a very small leak two days before they went spectacularly in a church, and they assured me it wasn't. When they went properly I knew it was the same thing again. And these contractions you're having are almost certainly doing something no matter what they say.

Yank Did they make you lie down flat for an hour to allow any waters to collect and then swab? If you have to go in again, ask for that. I had 2 tries at that 24 hours apart to confirm that I was just "queen or watery discharge" rather than waters going.

Just ate a lovely fry-up made by DH, probably not the best as I think you are supposed to 'eat light things', but screw it, I was very hungry after no breakfast and being in labour ward for three hours this morning.

They did try to collect fluid both times and did swabs each time, so dunno what to think about whether I've sprung a leak somewhere!

Going to crawl back in bed and see if I can get a nap in. I know I managed to sleep a bit sometime between 4-5:30, but woke up a load of times due to contractions and thinking I needed a poo (which I didn't).

MP, I have taken the paracetamol! Took two doses yesterday/last night, not sure if it helped at all, but figured it couldn't hurt. Popped some more just now.

Will come back later or tell DH to post in my place. Do NOT let me go to the hospital again, at least not for a looooong time.

it does sound like when my waters broke, yank, that 'ohh, is that pee, what the hell is that and why does it feel like i can't stop it?' thing. my friend had this happen also but the baby plugged up the hole (lol, boy and the dyke) and so it stopped and went all inconclusive for her too.

oh yank, wishing you well on the perserverance/endurance side of this! truly io reckon the only thing to do is really learn what the contractions feel like, so that when the thick n fast ones come there's fewer suprises. drift off/empty head when you can between them. every time you think that's it can't do anymore, remember how cool you are at enduring unpleasant stuff. (thinking of certain ex-colleagues of yours) !

and when you get to thinking i can't do this i haven't slept for days, throw the thought away and just do the next contraction.

remember me and ds1? i had an epi after 3 days 1st stage labour, had a sleep for a couple of hours let it wear off and pushed him out a bit better rested. there's help later if you need it. and me and ds2? my body gave me loads of extra adrenalin out of nowhere...your reserves you don't know about yet will help at some stage!

Yank try not to despair on both my labors I was told I had barely any dilation when cc 2 mins apart on my second I was sent home at 11pm and by 1.46 my dd was born and on ds I was told nothing happening at 11.00 at 12.30 I had him. Also on dd I had a sweep 2 days before and told I was 2 1/2cms but when checked in hospital I was apparently 1 cm so I think she measured wrong might have had something to do with the overcrowded hospital labor ward.

Hopefully like me things will really speed up soon but remember health professionals are not god and sometimes get things wrong and if your body tells you to go in go as you know your body best. Hope it all goes well for you.

I sort of managed to sleep until about 2pm, but kept waking with contractions. They aren't coming as often as before, but are just as if not more painful. Got DH to get hospital bag back out of car and have put TENS machine on. No idea what I'm doing with it or if it is helping!

Now just trying to read and lying down. Walking around is agony, can sit for a few minutes but contractions def easier to deal with lying on my side.

I was in slow labour with DS for 3 days before I had him but when my waters went it took just 3 hours for him to arrive so keeping my fingers crossed that similar happens for you.

I know you said its painful but try and keep moving about as the gravity will help things along, good luck and I hope your little boy is here very soon x

(Cock?) here for an update - Yank is now having strong contractions every 11 minnutes or so - v painful (it sounds like it anyway) - just hanging on as long as possible before calling hospital, as we keep getting sent home ! Hope the monkey-child is on it's way this time !

OK, Yank's husband again - Yank is still having quite painful contractions every about 7 mins - she's wondering if its better that they are now more painful and further apart than earlier today ...

She apparently also feels like a queen bee she tells me to report, as I keep dashing off to supply hot water bottles, chocolate, pop, books etc etc.

Any ideas on when to call hospital so we can go and be sent home again ?
