Why don't ALL countries have gas and air?

The UK seems to be fairly unusual in using gas and air - why is this?

(If other countries had devised a pain-relief method that I wasn't allowed, I'd be really annoyed!)

Oh yes so would I.

I loved gas and air and wish you could buy tanks for home use.

I'll have to have another one and see.. (not!)
Tries to get my dh to have a puff,but he demurred,saying he needed to be with it in case things went pear shaped (which didn't do much for my confidence..)

My DH used to be an ambulance driver in London and he says that on slow nights they'd all sit and pass around the gas and air like it was a spliff.

mp,so that's why my fil (ambulance driver-retired) couldn't wait to get out of the house for work-according to my dh!!

I used to hang out with the med students when I was at Uni in NZ, and they regularly brought a tank along to parties - was always very entertaining!

I remember a med student friend of mine telling me a story about a woman on his obstetrics run who used the gas & air mouth piece thingy to hit her husband while yelling 'It's all your f*ing fault' - friend said he thought it had the same therapeutic effect as actually using the gas and air...

I didn't like it. I did like pethidine though (but it had a terrible effect on DS1).
