I had sections for both dd and ds. Didn't throw up after I had dd, but did after ds and continued doing so for the best part of a week, despite anti sickness tablets and injections - I couldn't even keep water down. With dd I had morning sickness for 16 weeks and with ds I felt sick/threw up for the whole pregnancy - does that have any bearing do you think?

Yes - apparently its the injection they give you to expel the placenta that causes it.

If you have a natural 3rd stage then it is less likely to happen.

Maybe Mears could fill us in more?????

Yes!!
Is that because of the drugs or what?
Both times, remember reeling madly around the delivery room, trailing blood and gore (sorry-tmi I know!)like a bull in a bullring hurling into those funny little cardboard bowls.
(My, I sound ladylike don't I!!?)
The other weird thing was the uncontrollable shivering for a few hours afterwards. Just couldn't get warm.

in my defence, I told the anesthetist I felt sick and he kindly explained that was probably because they were moving my stomach out of hte way! Also later chose to point out that they were just popping my uterus back in now!

With dd1 I had diamorphine and then an epidural, I was sick throughout labour. Dd1 was finally delivered in theatre by forceps and I was sick afterwards while still in the theatre.

Dd2, I delivered myself with just some gas and air and I wasn't sick once.

moondog, had the shivering thing the night i had dd3. i put it down to blood loss (300ml i think it says, not much but twice as much as the previous births).

I was sick during both my labours (and had morning sickness with the first but not with the second). I had a whiff of gas and air with the first but that made me more sick so gave it up. With the second, I was throwing up from the minute labour started to the minute it finished and had no drugs so that couldn't have caused it! Midwife told me that some people react that way to labour but gave me a nice jab of anti-emetic after junior was born to stop it.

I also shivered badly after both my labours (like moondog) so don't know if that's connected.

The biggest cause of vomiting post delivery is without a doubt syntometrine (drug given for placenta). If you vomit throughout labour, you will defo vomit with injection. Not everyone does though. I have to say that it didn't make me vomit. However, with women who have not vomited at all throughout labour, despite having painkilling injections, it is amazing how many start vomiting within 15 mins of syntometrine. Disrupts baby's skin-to-skin contact

the student midwife looked worried asbout me puking after dd3. i just said 'dont worry and pass me a bowl. happened with N'

No, but projectile vomited when having contractions at home.
(didn't have any drugs in labour though - as that seems to be an issue in the throwing up after area)

gas and air the first time - shivers
nothing the second - shivers

I am so prine to puking - amazed didn't after the injection to expel the placenta (sorry, can't be arsed to think how to spell name). Did through transition both times tho.

Are they supposed to ask if you want it mears? Can't remember if they did or not... (no fit state to really) How many people have it as a matter of course?
Are you not in favour of it generally speaking? If you didn't have it, would the placenta take a lot longer to come out? Sorry, too many questions.
