Calling All Homebirthers UPDATE......

The girl in EIRE that I spoke about here (she's just found out that she is 35 weeks pg). Has decided on a hospital birth. A homebirth is now completely no go.

She received a copy of the hospital's birth plan (Limerick) today.

It states that mothers must give birth flat on their backs (I do actually know more than one lady who has been strapped down to birth when she has refused to take this position).

That the placental delivery must be managed.

That monitoring with a ctg must be carried out every 20 minutes throughout labour and that the mother must lie flat on her back for the duration of each monitoring session.

She wont revert to a homebirth, she seems scared to have one, it seems that it was her mum's ideal, rather than hers.

I've passed on the Irish AIMS number BtB, thanks.

No, that can't be right. That's total madness. That's got to be illegal - she needs to have the confidence to say she's not happy with that set up.

Www, I know, beyond Draconian, isn't it?

TS, she asked to use the 'birth room' at the hospital, only to be told by the 'midwife' that she really shouldn't as "What if a difficulty arose in the later stages, and we had no beds elsewhere? You could end up in theatre, it's happened before you know".

If that isn't one nasty scare tactic, I don't know what is! She has just turned 15 and there could be anything from 3 weeks until the birth, if she bieths around her EDD. Would have thought that would be plenty to contend with, without having to cope with this particular brand of cr@p!
