help! Waters broken? Feels different from last time, but only 37 weeks and breech baby

It's 2am here (am in Australia) and I just got up to see to DS1. Went to the loo, then noticed I was leaking while I was fluffing about with DS1. When I had him, my waters broke with a noticable 'pop' and a big gush (was turning over in bed at the time). This leaky stuff feels sticky like amniotic fluid, but I didn't notice my waters breaking this time.
Is it possible just to have a short leak?
Just wondering what to do. As I said it's 2am (and now I can't sleep, grrr) and I don't really want to go rushing off to hospital, as there's no-one here to look after DS1 if DH drives me.
BTW, the baby is breech/ transverse and I went for an ECV last Thursday, which didn't work. The obstertrician told me to come in if I had a contraction/ waters broke....
Any suggestions?

I had a slight pop and then leaked just a wee bit so I don't think that there is a clear right or wrong with the waters breaking. I was told to go into the hospital right away but tbh, could have stayed at home as I had to be induced the next day.

Do you have any pain?
Can you phone the hospital or your midwife?

Good luck!

can you ring the hospital to ask their advice? who will look after ds1 anyway? Sounds like your waters have gone, as it sounds like what happened to me when I had ds2... good luck

WHen my waters broke it was more of a trickle, which continued, and I went straight into labour shortly afterwards..I would phone them!

oh yes, and when it happened to me, I didn't rush - happened about 5pm, collected ds1 from childminder, got his tea, put him to bed by 8 am, friend came round THEN went up to the hospital (once dh home), checked, yes waters gone but not dilated, home again, hospital again by midnight, ds2 born by 3am! BUT if you are breech they might keep you in once they have you.

mine popped first time but trickled second. you don't have to go in straight away if waters anyway. put a pad on and if it keeps coming its waters as they replenish themselves. my hos said stay at home as long as you are comfy but i woould ring just to check.
good luck.

What colour is it? Pink, green, brown, clear? Is baby moving as normal? The other possibility is that it is urine, or vaginal discharge. Pop a pad on and lie down for 20 mins and see how wet the pad is. As baby is transverse I'd ring the hosp. If you are planning a vaginal breech birth, and baby is now breech, that's one thing, but there is no vaginal exit for transverse as I'm sure you appreciate! Our hospital only recommends leaving a woman 18 hours before inducing labour when waters have gone, but the evidence says longer. Good luck

you must go in/ as reikiezen has said, there is no way to give birhth vaginally to a transverse baby.

it might be a leak, but i would definitely get checked out right now !

Hmmm, that's what i thought everyone would say! Unfortunately, there is literally no-one to look after DS. All possible childcare out of the country/ away. Including both sets of neighbours.
Hopefully if I need to go to hosp, I can drive myself, as I don't really want to cart a grumpy 2.5 year old with us at this time of the morning!

Oh that's definitely broken waters....I got up to go to the loo at 6 am and noticed my pants were sodden - thought I had half wet myself so changed, then went back to sleep for an hour, only to get up again and have more of it run down my legs and onto the floor. STILL thought it was wee until I was cleaning it up and noticed it was slightly pink, and then it hit me that my waters had actually broken!! This went on all day and only started getting contractions later that evening.....baby's on the way - best of luck and wishing you strength!!!

I trickled a bit and yes as Lulu says you must go in, there is no reason not to and not doing so would be slightly foolish if immensely understandable.

hairy you're going to have t cart a grumpy 2 year old I am afraid- if you got part way there and ctx kicked in (and after my trickles the actual labour was less than 40 minutes start to end) you'd be in really deep shite.

I understand about the DH- really I do, my main reason to hire a doula was lack of childcare and the fatr of this happening but ultimately you need to go in for the safety of you and the baby

quick update: I am still in one piece! Phoned the hospital and they advised me to come in. Woke DH and DS and they drove me... DH was not keen on me going in a taxi at all. They dropped me off. Was checked and monitored for a while, then they kept me in til obstertrician came to see me this morning.
Had not had any more leakage, no pains etc, so obs. thought that I may have had a small pocket of water between cervix and amniotic sac which caused the leaking.
All very uneventful in the end, but I did get a nice brekky at the hospital this morning!!
Baby is still breech btw.

Was wondering about you! How strange, never heard of that before...oh well, guess it's all for the best given that the baby's still breech! And a free brekky never goes amiss!

Oh, that is interesting. About a week before DS was born I was at the gynae for a check up and she said that there was signs of amniotic fluid. She sent me to the hospital where they told me that the waters were intact. I always wondered what it could have been, perhaps something similar.

Hope you have no more nighttime dashes to emergency.
