C-section recovery

It is 3 months since I had the c-section and I still have pain in my lower abdomen, feel uncomfortable, pain when changing position from one side to another when lying down in bed, sneeze or cough. Also feel pain and uncomfortable when getting up from bed or from sitting position.
Feels kind of heavy inside the stomach, like there is lump or sweliing inside. I assume that due to birth may be things have become loose inside the abdomen which makes me feel heavy inside.

Anyone had similar lower abdominal pain, pain when pressing the lower abdomen or swelling feeling inside. How long did it take to heal finally to feel normally. I am so depressed now, never imagined it takes so long to recover.

Go to see your GP. This is not normal - I've had 2 c-sections and had nothing like this. Both times, it took only a few weeks to get rid of any abdominal soreness, and the sort of pain you describe I only felt for a few hours the day of the operation.

Sorry, I don't want to scare you, but I think you should see a doctor.

yeh doesn't sound normal. I had emer c section and pain took a while to go, prob about 6 wks but it's four months now and i feel fine. The only thing i notice is that my muscles are a little weak, but saw physio and there is no gap. def go see GP.

Adding my voice to the 'see the GP' brigade.
I healed beautifully from my c section. I know not everyone is so lucky but 3 months on sounds extreme!

See a GP I had mine 3 months ago and wouldn't know.

Definitely see your GP, but don't panic. It took me a long time to recover from my c-section. I still had a feeling of weakness and tenderness in the area for months afterwards. There was nothing actually wrong with me and the scar healed very well eventually. People recover at different paces.

I've had two, and agree, didn't experience any pain like this, and particularly not after so long. The only pain i had was a kind of soreness, and sometimes the pull on the knot of the internal stitches as uterus contracted back. This was more of a burning pain, not what you have described.

Get to GP asap. Good luck - am sure you've be fine, but best to get checked out.

I consulted 2 GP's, did ultrasound and inflamation blood tests says everything is normal, my uterus is also ok. He says may be it may be due to scar tissue or adhesion and sometimes it takes longer time to heal.

MrsMAttie how long did it take u to heal eventually, did u also feel pain when pressing in lower abdomen above incision or heavy feeling inside? what checkups did the doctor perform?

I had a lot of adhesions and srry to be pessimistic, my DD is now 4 and only now am I feeling more normal. Still yelp with pain if a sneeze takes me unexpectedly.
But now have been diagnosed with a tender uterus because of scarring and my womb is held in the wrong place with adhesions - I've been recommended a hysterectomy. My bladder is tied up like a cats cradle also with scars.

I went to my GP and she was useless. Consultant was extreme - see above!

I had a crash emer section and a 12 inch scar so it was unusual.

Try and pull the scar with oiled fingers pinch and pull it away from your body. Also use oil and rub your scar quite hard from side to side, and round and round in circles. It will hurt but you'll release adhesions. take pain relief if you need it. I couldn't do a sit up for 18 months and was in agony moving around in bed. Sex life still not back to normal 4 years later .

go to maternalfitness.com to see what else you can do.

Sorry you're in pain - sometimes people are unlucky. I was I know.

Sorry forgot to mention I also feel that I have a tennis ball inside my abdomen.

I have no advice for you really only that you are not alone, and that some of us are unlucky, and produce a lot of scar tissue in the peritoneum (connective tissue).

It takes time for the body to reabsorb it and massage and accupuncture have helped me a lot with nerve regrowth.

ok, some of this sounds familiar - i am 5 weeks on. can i butt in and ask what are adhesions?

Hi Manitz, conmgratulations!
there is a link to a site which talks about abdominal surgery and adhesions here
increased blood flow to the area helps healing and reabsorption of scar tissue, so massage and hot water bottles work!
