Childbirth

If 1st child is early, what's the likelyhood of the 2nd one being early too?

DS was 3 weeks early, waters broke, no contractions, he was footling breech so had "emergency" section. 2nd is due in 7 weeks - will history repeat itself? Is there any research on this - just wondering?

Hiya, my waters broke 13 days early with DS2, no contractions, "emergency section" (ooh that's spooky LOL) for 'risk of distress' (or something daft like that).

DS2 waters broke 6 days early, they let me go home and induced me 4 days later, he was born the following day, 'dragged' out by ventouse but via the 'standard' exit point

I was told that there is usually a pattern - your gestational period is likely the same, barring any unusual circumstances.

Well ds was 2 weeks early. Dd was born bang on due date (rare apparently as only 1% of babies arrive on due date).

Both my ds came on due date! 37 weeks pg now, perhaps should send DP down to bookies to see what odds would be if it happened again!

That would be very rare if it happened a third time!

DS bang on due date (typical Boxing day) DD1 10 days late DD2 3 days early. But I think early delivery once does affect your chances of it happening again.

DD1 5 wks early,no reason for it.

I was telling a friend this on the phone - she pointed out that in that case this one should arrive on due date!

My SIL has 4 children - and they ALL arrived on the due date !

both of mine were caesars ( for different reasons0 and in pondering your question I realised dd1 was 10 days early ( emergency) and dd2 was 10 days late ( elective)

Wiith the first my waters broke at 35w5d and I was induced and delivered at 36w0d. I was very nervous that it would happen again, especially as my 2nd pregnancy was very traumatic, but baby number 2 was born at 39w4d after my water broke and then I went into spontaneous labour.

Dd was 6 days late

My DS1 was 3 weeks early, when DD was 3 weeks early again i was completely unprepared, thinking it couldnt happen again. When i got pregnant again i was convinced that he would be 3 weeks early as well, but he was only one week early! That 2 weeks was the longest of my life, thinking he could be born at any time. I was even scared to go out by myself incase my waters broke! In the end, i was home alone and by the time i phoned DH and we got to hospital i was 9 cm dilated! The whole labour took 2.5 hours from start to finish!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was only in hospital for 10 minutes before he was born.
